Super nice place and nice tour

Super beautiful ruins that you can still climb with spectacular views. We did this together with a jungle tour. Only viewed the tour for the jungle and the ruins themselves. Not as busy as chichen itza. The jungle here is also very cool with wild howler monkeys. Bring enough water!

Prime private guided Palenque tour

Carlos was very knowledgeable. We had been to the ruins the day before, and we did a lot of reading before we came. We still learned a lot. He spoke a Mayan language as well as Spanish and English. We've wanted to see Palenque for decades, and this trip met our high expectations.

Very interesting

The best of the Mayan ruins I visited, easily beat Chichén Itzá. There was more to see than just lots of boulders piled on top of each other and there wasn't the same hysterical trade around the ruins. It was possible to see more carved figures etc in the ruins. Also had to climb up into some ruins.

In early stages of excavation.

The exposed ruins are only a small part of the total archeological ruins. The site offers the opportunity to walk around the ruins and in the jungle around the unexcavated sites and see jungle animals. It has not been excavated to the extent of other ruins. There is a small museum with some nice artifacts.

In search of the ancient Maya

When visiting Mexico, we decided to make a thematic stay, since we could not see everything. Our theme was the Maya, pre-Colombian people famous for their knowledge (only to have a writing in Latin America). The first ruins we visited were those of Palenque. To get there, we went from CDMX to Villa Hermosa, in the state of Tabasco. The shock was at the airport: the taxis were almost the price of the plane and, as it was at night, we had no other way but to take one of them. We went to a hotel and the next day we managed to arrive in the city of Palenque, in the state of Chiapas. From there, we continue to the ruins. They were stunning. We hired the Service of a guide. In fact, we did it online three days before and we regretted it because it was quite expensive and the information he could give was not different from those given quickly in the printed tabs. We spent morning and afternoon in Palenque and then returned to Villa Hermosa. We pick up our luggage and return to Palenque, where we take a van to Tikal, another Maia ruin, this in Guatemala

Amazing Ruins

Palenque is such a nice place to visit. We stayed the night before in a hotel nearby so we were able to visit Palenque in the morning, before all the tourists arrive from Villahermosa, San Cristobal and Tuxtra Gutierrez. Also, since it is located in the jungle, visiting in the morning allowed us to miss the hot and humid weather. Only 2% of the ruins have been discovered so it is impossible to imagine how the place looked hundred of years ago. Due to the pandemic, no one can climb the ruins to avoid being too close to others but still, the ruins are amazing from the ground. The trails through the jungle are great too and you can see cascades and rivers. If you take bananas, you will not be able to get rid of the monkeys! Hire one of the guides once you enter the ruins area, much better price and you can help locals.

Palenque with Hector

We had a special private tour with Hector as our guide. It was fabulous. He was extremely knowledgeable about the site and Mayan culture overall. A do not miss experience! Especially with Hector. His English is perfect. A totally enjoyable day.
