Itinerary
Our first stop on the tour is Blackness Castle, famously featured as Fort William in the filming of Outlander. Known as the "ship that never sailed" due to its distinctive shape resembling a stone ship anchored on the Firth of Forth, the castle offers a glimpse into Scotland’s storied past. During our visit, you'll enjoy a 30-minute guided experience to uncover its fascinating history and it's where they filmed, followed by an additional 30 minutes of free time to explore at your own pace, take photos, and soak in the atmosphere.
Next on our tour is Midhope Castle, instantly recognisable to Outlander fans as Lallybroch, the cherished home of Jamie Fraser. This 16th-century tower house exudes the charm and history of Scotland's past, making it a favourite among visitors. We will have around 30 minutes to explore the grounds, take photographs, and capture the essence of this iconic location. This stop offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of Outlander and experience the tranquil setting of Jamie’s family estate.
Our next stop is the charming village of Falkland, best known to Outlander fans as the filming location for the fictional 1940s Inverness. With its picturesque streets and historic buildings, Falkland offers a unique step back in time. We will spend around 1 hour and 15 minutes here, allowing you to explore and enjoy the village at a leisurely pace. You’ll also have the opportunity to grab a bite to eat at one of the local cafés or restaurants, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing break. If you happen to bring your own lunch, you’ll have enough time to visit Falkland Palace on your own, though please note that the palace is closed during the winter months and there is an additional entrance fee to visit. During our visit, your guide will also point out the Bruce Fountain and other Outlander points of interest, ensuring you don’t miss the key highlights.
Our next stop is the impressive Doune Castle, a must-see for film and history enthusiasts. We will spend an hour here, beginning with a 15-minute presentation from your guide to introduce the castle’s history and key details. The remaining 45 minutes are yours to explore at your own pace using the audio guides, included in the entrance fee. Doune Castle is famously featured in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, as Winterfell in the Game of Thrones pilot, and as Castle Leoch, seat of Clan MacKenzie, in Outlander. Please note that the castle is not suitable for visitors using mobility aids due to steep steps and narrow pathways. However, you can enjoy views of the exterior and relax in the courtyard. This stop offers a unique opportunity to step into the world of these iconic series and explore one of Scotland’s most recognisable castles.
Our final stop is the picturesque village of Culross, where we’ll spend 30 minutes exploring its historic charm. This guided visit includes a stop at the iconic Mercat Cross, a symbol of the village’s trading past, and a walk behind Culross Palace to see the beautiful Hanging Garden. From here, you'll enjoy a wonderful view over the River Forth, capturing the essence of this well-preserved 17th-century village. Known for its cobbled streets and distinctive mustard-coloured houses, Culross offers a glimpse into the past and has been featured in Outlander as the fictional town of Cranesmuir. This stop provides a perfect ending to our tour, blending history, scenery, and storytelling.

Tour company NEVER SHOWED UP at pickup point. No communication from them after we email, what’s app and called. Very disappointing as we flew into Glasgow a day early JUST to do this day trip!
Nobody picked us up. We waited at the designated spot for over an hour. We tried to contact tour guide and got no response back. Still nothing from them days later.
The best day we had in Scotland. Our guide went above and beyond to show us everything Outlander. Also got a great lesson in Scottish history. I feel like we also found a friend along the way!
Halmut and Struan were fantastic to tour with- very knowledgeable, very nice, and very funny. We truly enjoyed our time in the tour!
Good Afternoon, Thank you so much for your amazing review. We hope to see you all on tour with us again in the future! :) Safe Travels and Haste Ye Back. Kind Regards Catriona Stevenson Owner
Our guide was Jonny and he was fantastic. He had lots of little details to share that really made the experience special. We saw places that were used for filming the show while getting to see beautiful castles, views and quaint towns. At one castle you get to hear Sam’s voice in the audio guide- a very special treat. If you’re a fan and you only have one day, this is perfect.

Really enjoyed the 1 day Outlander trip out of Glasgow. Barry was excellent he provided a good overview of the sites we visited - providing not only the Outlander significance but the historical context as well. It was a fun day, and not having to drive and find all these locations on our own was wonderful. I would recommend this tour to Outlander fans and to anyone wanting to see historical sites not easily found.

My husband and I had an amazing time on our Outlander tour. We both enjoy the television series and Scottish culture. This tour was not only informative on the subject of Outlander filming locations, but on the history of Scotland. I would recommend this tour to anyone who is looking for something outside of standard bus tours, and immersive into Scottish culture. It was definitely a highlight of our trip!

We joined another group to do the ones day tour of Outlander. Barry our guide was fantastic, great fun, full of hilarious stories about doing tours in Scotland and life in general. The weather was incredible but Barry made sure we had plenty of water and that the isnde of the van was kept at a comfortable temperature via the AC. We covered over 250 miles and visited all the major places used for filming. Highly highly recommended and even better if you get Barry Slainte x

Me and my husband took the option of a Outlander day tour whilst in Scotland. We chose this company based on its 5 star reviews on TA and in particular their guide Barry. We were met in central Glasgow and were relieved to find that our driver for the day was indeed Barry. You could not wish to meet a more intelligent engaging funny and friendlier guy. I was absolutely staggered at the depth of his knowledge and his obvious passion for his job and his country. We visited all the major places where Outlander in season 1 is filmed, Lallybroch Fort William Inverness Castle Leoch and Cranesmuir and were treated to a in-depth and comprehensive potted history of each location. Even for the non diehard Outlander fans on the tour with us it was phenomenal to visit these places and hear about the centuries of history at each location. A thourghly informative and engaging day out and most importantly GOOD FUN. We intend to do another longer trip with this company on our return to Scotland in the fall. Thank you Barry and Slainte Tours!
