Be aware there are two start times (9:20 and 10:20). They are the same but the 10:20 starts and ends one hour later. When 9:20 is full or almost full we open the 10:20 option.

Our journey begins at the enchanting Katsuoji Temple, nestled in the serene northern region of Osaka. Known for its stunning gardens and the magical presence of hundreds of Daruma dolls symbolising perseverance and good luck, Katsuoji offers a peaceful start to our adventure. As we explore this hidden gem, we will be surrounded by beautiful landscapes and traditional Japanese architecture, creating a tranquil and inspiring atmosphere perfect for contemplation and discovery. This tour uses public transportation and walking. Katsuoji Temple itself is a stunning attraction worth exploring. The temple, with its rich history tracing back to the Nara period, is surrounded by breathtaking scenery. You will be enchanted by the vibrant seasonal flowers, the serene pond, beautifully landscaped gardens, and the charming bridge that adds to the picturesque setting. Katsuoji Temple offers a perfect blend of cultural significance and natural beauty, making it an unforgettable experience.
Hidden at the end of a gentle forest trail, Minoo Waterfall has long been a place of spiritual retreat and natural beauty. Once visited by mountain ascetics like En no Gyōja, this 33-meter cascade has been associated with Shugendō practice and mythical dragon guardians said to protect the valley. Today, the waterfall is a serene escape from the city—surrounded by lush forest, playful monkeys, and the calming sounds of rushing water. We spend about an hour here relaxing, enjoying the view, eating lunch, and sampling local specialties like crispy maple leaf tempura. It’s a refreshing break and a highlight of the walk.
After your lunch, we will walk through the park and make our way back to the station. Along the way, we will stop at various scenic spots and points of interest, allowing you to further enjoy the natural beauty and unique charm of Minoh Park. Each stop provides a chance to take in more of the lush surroundings and capture memorable moments of this tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of Osaka.
Hidden just off the main path, is Ryuanji and Bentendō Temple. It's said that Bentendo was founded by En no Gyōja, the legendary mountain sage, to honor Benzaiten, the goddess of water, music, and all things that flow. Ryuanji temple is not flashy like Katsuoji, but it offers something rarer—a calm, reflective space steeped in mountain mysticism. According to local lore, monkeys who once meditated here were transformed into a protective dragon spirit—giving the temple its name: "Dragon Hermitage."

We had a wonderful experience on this tour, and a big part of that was our guide, Garrett. He has a fantastic personality and was incredibly patient with our children throughout the day. He made a genuine effort to connect with them, which made the experience even more enjoyable for our whole family. The places we visited were all beautiful, but the final stop before the train ride back was especially memorable. It felt like stepping back in time and was the perfect way to end the tour. Garrett was knowledgeable, friendly, and made everyone feel comfortable. We learned a lot about the area while having a great time. We have a great time with our handsome, patient guide, Adam. He did not rush us through the trip. He kept assuring us that we can stop for photo taking or need time to rest. He was our photographer too. Another trainee guide, Kikko who went with us to the trip was entertaining (he sang a few notes now and then; understand he was a performer). He offered to carry our lunch packed from supermarket before the trip. He will definitely be an excellent guide in future.

this tour was really great. it is somewhat of a long ride via bus and train to get there but having the guide to navigate it eliminated all the stress. we absolutely loved the tour if katsuo-ji temple in december. the weather was perfect. the grounds are maintained beautifully. our guide joel knew tons of interesting info about the temple as well as japan in general. he let us really take our time to enjoy and was able to keep both me and my young adult sons engaged throughout. he had us stop at a grocery store on our way to get food for lunch which was both economical and yummy. we ate at a spot outdoors with a beautiful view. we then walked a long path to see minoh falls and a very old and lovely shinto shrine. this was a great outdoor day with lots of walking that got us out into the mountain countryside for a change of pace from our other urban activities.

The lads that took us were great. Spoke perfect English. Not that that mattered and knew all about where we went. To be honest I was expecting to train it as I don’t usually read stuff lol I just book. But I really enjoyed the whole Japan experience. As for the tour. DO IT. !!! It was fantastic
Our guides were amazing! Unfortunately I don't remember the names and I would have loved to take your contact but it's a boy from the Philippines and the other from New York. Super patient, friendly and knowledgeable. The place is amazing, the temple is stunning, full of history and beauty. You get to hear the monks praying, it's an unforgettable experience. The waterfall walk is very quiet and not tired. Of all the temples we visited in Japan, this is in our top 3.
