Back in 1583, Toyotomi Hideyoshi built Osaka Castle to unite Japan during the Sengoku period. Despite heavy damage during the Boshin War and World War II, it was rebuilt in 1928 to restore its original design. Today, Osaka Castle stands tall at eight stories, surrounded by a six-tier moat and massive stone walls. With its rich history, stunning architecture, and breathtaking views, Osaka Castle remains one of Japan's most visited attractions. Inside the main tower, the Osaka Museum has over 10,000 historical treasures like samurai swords, armor, and weapons. You can even try on replicas of samurai helmets and surcoats, including Toyotomi Hideyoshi's iconic black helmet with golden horns. Head up to the main tower roof for an amazing 360-degree view of Osaka city. You'll spot landmarks like the Umeda Sky Building, Osaka Bay, and Abeno Harukas skyscraper. Keep an eye out for the "shachi" too—a creature with the body of a carp.

Excellent Castle

Excellent location to visit. Be sure to start at the top floor and see all of the exhibits. They have some extremely old documents and artifacts.

They canceled our tickets...

They canceled our tickets last minute even though we reserved a day and time way ahead of time but have not refunded our money. We went to the spot anyway to walk around it and it was totally open, beautiful weather. People were going in and having a great time, but not us because Viator never gave us tickets! Very unhappy!

Never got a ticket

Do not try to buy a ticket for this on short notice. It might be fine if you plan farther in advance as the pre-paid ticket line to get in the castle is shorter. I bought a ticket the day of going and was already at the castle trying to get in when I saw an email from TripAdvisor that they did not have any tickets left and offered me a ticket the next day. I responded no since I would not be there but never got a response back. The only response was asking me to write a review so they clearly did not pay attention to my message yet. The castle is worth seeing. I waited in line to buy a ticket on site which took some time but it was at least effective and cheaper to do.

There is no tour! False advertising.

The only benefit of booking this is that you get your ticket(s) in advance so that you don’t have to line up on the day. Contrary to what they say there is no tour guide at all. You’re better off buying the ticket directly from the official website and avoid paying them a cut for doing nothing. I would give 0/5 stars if I could. Osaka Castle itself is amazing. 5/5.

Skip-the-line tickets - not a tour.

The castle is beautiful, although be aware that the inside is composed entirely of a museum. They do a very good job of explaining the story of the castle and the shoguns and samurai who fought to control it. On the top floor is an observation deck with fantastic views. The ticketing package was excellent, as it let us skip the ticket line with no upcharge. A good decision.

Stunning exploration of...

Stunning exploration of the Kii Peninsula’s key spiritual sites and natural beauty along the Kumano pilgrimage. Unfortunately, we we’re unimpressed with the assigned personal tour guide.

TOUR GUIDE NO-SHOW

No-show on the tour guide. Lack of instructions on where to meet may have been the issue. Waited at the bottom of the castle 30 minutes before and to 20 minutes after the 10:30 meet time. Sent several messages through the contact method provided and there was no reply and no guide. Waste of money. Do not book with these people.

Nice place, tour guide was not there

The place was very beautiful going there early made us enjoy our time before the crowds. However, unfortunately there was no tour guide there but we managed to take our time to understand everything although we could have gained more with a tour guide.

Osaka Castle

Anyone who is going to visit Osaka Castle I recommend getting your tickets from this company because we purchased our tickets beforehand we were able to skip the line for people purchasing tickets at the castle for that day. It was a long line on a hot and humid day in early September. Repurchasing these tickets was a godsend. We walked right into the castle and enjoyed the sights and history of this beautiful Castle.

Osaka Castle is great but DO NOT book with this tour operator

While the Osaka castle was a great experiences, I would never book with this tour operator again and that is the main reason I am writing this review. The listing says you will receive the ticket voucher a day before your scheduled tour but I did not and I had to reach out myself to ask for the voucher. When I did so, all I got was a one liner “will send shortly” and then her proceeded to send it 4 HOURS later and it only send 6 adults, 3 youth even though we paid for 6 adults, 3 youth, 2 children. I emailed twice asking where the 2 youth tickets were with no response. This tour operator was horrible and it was so stressful wondering if my kids were going to get in (the “youth” tickets were for the teens we had with us) and it turns out that my kids were FREE (the Osaka Castle website confirms jr high age and below are free) yet this tour operator CHARGED us! I cannot believe Viator allows this to happen. I have screenshot proof of this and the lack of communication from the vendor in case he disputes any of this information I have posted. Please go to the Osaka Castle, just do NOT book with this tour operator as there are many other professional options.
