Itinerary
You will visit every part of the church, with a special focus on the beautiful San Brizio chapel, decorated by the reinassance artist Luca Signorelli. His frescoes are considered one of the most sensational works of art in Italy.
A beautiful walk in the heart of Orvieto will take you to the underground area of “Pozzo della Cava” where you will discover the hidden part of the city. These tunnels have been escavated during more than 23 centuries by the inhabitants of the area. Here your guide will explain you how the rooms were used during the history and you will look down inside the impressive 36 meters deep etruscan well.
Once you finished the underground tour, you will walk to the edge of the city; from the top of the cliffs you will admire stunning views on the rolling hills covered with vineyards and olive trees. Walking along the ancient walls of Orvieto you will enjoy many points of view on the countryside and the brown coloured medieval town. A short walk throug pictoresque little alleys will take you back to Piazza Duomo, ending point of the tour.

Emma is a fantastic guide she is knowledgeable, professional and amazing! She was very patient and added so much to the tour by sharing a wealth of information!
Giordano Conticelli was a fabulous guide. His knowledge and passion of Orvieto cathedral was amazing. It was by far our favorite tour experience in Tuscany. I would highly recommend it. We took several other Viator tours that week and ALL were very good!!
Awesome tour and tour guide of the Orvieto Cathederal and Etruscan ruins. Our guide was a history professor who spoke well in English as well as very knowledgeable.
A lovely time getting to know the history and details of the cathedral inside and out - the area around Orvieto and the caves. Time and money well spent . Much greater appreciation of everything with help of the guide . Emmanuel was wonderful - informative, patient, kind, and a pleasure to be with .
Our guide Furio was incredible! He was a master of studies in both art history and architecture. He answered any and all questions we had, and was so personable. His English was perfect. We have been on hundreds of tours and Furio is by far the best guide we have ever had.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We are truly delighted to hear that you enjoyed your experience in Orvieto and that Furio made such a memorable impression. His passion for art history and architecture, together with his ability to connect with guests, are qualities we value deeply. Hearing that, after hundreds of tours, you consider him the best guide you have ever had is an extraordinary compliment, and we will be very proud to share your words with him. Thank you again for choosing our tour, and we hope to welcome you back to Italy in the future!
Local guide gave extensive knowledge of her love for this city. From the history, to the church to the underground.

When you book a tour, you receive details that include a meeting place & arrival time suggestion of 15min early. Our meeting place said “Piazza del Duomo”. That’s it, no further details. It’s an average size plaza, so being concerned for not finding our tour guide, we arrived 20min early. We booked a private tour, so I was seeking out a single person, not a group. I was expecting a flag being held, a sign saying our name, or somebody generally wondering the plaza, looking like they too were searching for somebody. There was nobody. There was however an office for the caves tour, so I went there and showed my voucher. The attendant said they weren’t the same business, but she knew the company who provided the guides, so she called them for me. But that went to voicemail so she left a message on my behalf. Now it’s time for my tour to start. I too had a phone number to reach my tour guide directly, so I called it. It went to voicemail so I left a message. I started asking other tour guides and locals who might be able to help me understand if there was a specific meeting place. One of the guides said “Your guide should’ve sent you communication about where to meet”. I never received such communication. I called my guide’s number again and left another voicemail. The voucher also offers a way to text your guide directly and that was ignored. Then I called Trip Advisor and the rep asked “Didn’t your guide send you a message with instructions?”. Nope. “Okay, I’ll call your guide. Hmm, it went to voicemail, so I left a message.” (Welcome to my world, lady.) Meanwhile, my husband is literally asking every single person in the plaza if they’re our guide. Now it’s 15min past our tour appointment and clearly *I* have been exhausting ALL EFFORTS to do my part in seeing that this thing actually happens, when I hear my husband calling me, with a woman standing next to him, waving. They’re standing up against a random wall near the caves tour office (where we’d started our morning, and she was not there). Next to that office are two signs: A big one advertising the caves, and a tiny little sign with a lower case “i” in the middle. That’s it. The letter “i”. No logo or business name. Just one letter, which one might interpret to be “information”. But a random person in plain clothes standing against the wall browsing their phone looks like any other tourist, not like a guide or rep of any kind. And I was never told “meet by the information sign”. I start asking her where she’d been for the past half hour and she started in on me with “I was right here where I was supposed to be and you weren’t here! I’ve been here for twenty minutes waiting and you didn’t come to me.” (gesturing toward the little sign). This passive aggressive suggestion that *I* somehow didn’t do my part was so infuriating, especially after I’d spent more than a half hour frantically trying to problem solve, all while she just hung out against a wall doing NOTHING to try and connect with us, including simply answering her phone. I told her that I was supposed to have gotten communication from her about where to meet and she looked confused, like she had no idea what I was talking about, and just kept saying “I was waiting for you”, like I was in the wrong. If I didn’t know any better, I’d wonder if she was hoping for a no-show. It was such an incredibly stressful and frankly offensive way to begin our private time with her, it was challenging to overcome. She was knowledgeable and the tour itself was interesting, so my rating reflects that. But this organization (or maybe just SHE) needs to dial in their processes to set the customer up for success, rather than failure. SUGGESTION: Book directly through a tour company, not a third party like T.A.
Having our knowledgeable guide’s insights into the Orvieto Duomo and the underground Orvieto archaeology greatly enriched our experience. Pamela was an amazing guide and we very much enjoyed the tour.
It’s wonderful to hear that the tour made your experience of Orvieto even more meaningful. The Duomo and the underground spaces have such a fascinating history, and we’re glad it came through clearly. Pamela will be very happy to know her guidance made a difference. Thank you for your recommendation!
I visited Orvieto in the 80’s and so glad I could come back. Our guide was wonderful! The Duomo was even more beautiful than I remembered and listening to the history is just incredible! Some tour guides should be history teachers! It was perfect weather so the walk to the cave was enjoyable. I wish we had more time to spend in such an incredible city!
Our tour guide was amazing. Request to see the pigeon hole tour as the other tour you can pay without a guide and walk through.
