What a great tour to start celebrating my birthday weekend! So much history to explore. Great pizza and craft beer at Old Town Pizza and Brewery with exploring the tunnels below the city! Also, I made some new friends!
This was a fascinating journey back in time-- entertaining and informative at the same time. Our Guide was great!
The most lame tour I’ve ever been on. I don’t think it was the tour guide’s fault as much as it was that there’s really no story to tell. We just walked thru the basement level of the building, in the dark, while he told ghost stories. It was really two hours of my life I can’t get back.
A good ghost story. I was there more for the history of the building and why the tunnels. Both were good. Something to do on a free afternoon/evening. Stay and order the Delicious pizza afterwards.
I had a great time as a solo traveler joining several couples and families on this tour. Our guide was knowledgeable, conscientious, and funny. I didn’t see any ghosts, but the tunnels themselves are plenty spooky; and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the darker side of the city’s history.
Skippy was great! Knowledgeable and entertaining! Great story teller!! The sites he showed us wete cool to see as party of history!
Sue’s enthusiasm and knowledge base about Portland history and specifics having to do with the Shanghai tunnels and related history was wonderful. We’re not sure if we are any more believers in ghosts than we were before, but it left us wanting to be. The tour was still fun for us skeptics and nonbelievers.
Natasha was phenomenal!!! She had an amazing knowledge of the history of Portland and Old Town Pizza building. Highly recommend this tour with her.
No tunnels were explored. You basically just walk around a dusty basement below the pizza place. We also were led around a newly purchased hotel by the same owner of the pizza place and just told history of Portland not featuring any ghost tales. It was clearly to take up time because they do not have enough content for 90 minutes. The leader Sue had no charisma, mocked people who did believe in ghosts (crazy is what she said), and also showed us bad photos quickly on an iPad and iPhone. Most of it was lens flare, pareidolia, image artifacts, or super imposed images. It was a huge disappointment. The beer tasting at the end was in a dramaticized saloon, with two small beer pours. Then we all got a can to go when we left the parlor. A total joke. Stay away.
This was just an ok tour. A good way to kill time in Portland but it seems like the tour script was created just to capitalize on the the damp basement under the building. The tour guide was a bit too chatty and dramatic but we liked it when she told the historical facts - without the drama. Beer sample at the end of the tour was warm.
