Sri Aurobindo Ghosh is arguably the most famous citizen of Pondicherry. The tour begins with a visit to his memorial at the Aurobindo Ashram. Guests will get a brief experience of his life and times as well as his philosophy and revolutionary ideas. The memorial also has a section on Sri Aurobindo’s famous disciple Mirra Alfassa. It is the perfect place for meditation.
A French heritage walk is organized through the heart of the city where one can see glimpses of exquisite French style of architecture. This heritage walk will help you appreciate the French connection with Pondicherry.
We visit a unique factory which makes hand made paper. Sri Aurobindo Paper Factory started 50 years ago and makes paper from 100% cotton rag pulp. In this visit guests will experience how the paper is produced from cotton rags and then processed with techniques like silk screen printing and marbling.
A walk through the famous promenade of Pondicherry facing the lovely Bay of Bengal follows this.
Post lunch we travel to Auroville, the radical concept of a global village where thousands of people from across the world have given up their nationalities and are living as global citizens. Auroville was conceived with the vision that- “There should be a somewhere on earth, a place which no nation could claim as its own, where all human beings of goodwill who have a sincere aspiration could live freely as citizens of the world and obey one single authority, that of the supreme truth; a place of peace, concord and harmony…”. Guests will also get to see the various ways in which its citizens practice sustainable way of life. Matri Mandir is a giant dome for silent meditation. Guests can see it from outside on a day visit. Note permission for meditating inside has to be taken one day in advance in person.

Went with Five seasons guide Janaith and driver Adhil, who were superb from pick up to drop off, great driving in a bonkers city, whole trip was great all very interesting with great input from Janaith which enhanced the experience. Our personal highlights were Manakula temple, eglise de Notre Dame des Angles church, paper factory and Auroville, we both tried the south indian food, which was great for me, not so the good lady as she's not into spicy, but a new experience, good value for money and would recommend anyone to give it a whirl, Pondacherry is lovely..
Very nice experience. I enjoyed the white Town. Interesting french colonial vibe. The spirit if Aravindo Ashram was very calming. A bird's eye view of Matri mandir was nice bur for me ,to experience Auroville at its full potential one needs to spend more time! Lunch was interesting authentic local cuisine experience...go with an open mind. My guide Vietri was very knowledgeable and made my experience very pleasant.
I had a nice time visiting Pondicherry with Ganesh. We saw a yoga temple, Hindu temple, the beach and Auroville. It was a long ride but it was great seeing the countryside of south India. I definitely recommend this day trip from Chennai.
The guide is widely-knowledgeable. Also, he went far and beyond to change the tour vehicle to accommodate us. I highly appreciate his patience and kindness since my grandmother needed more time to walk. The tour was managed timely too. Overall, it was a wonderful tour.
The ride to Pondicherry was smooth and the weather was just right. En-route scenic view of Auroville was marvellous & calm while the vegetarian lunch was superb. The French quaters differed greatly from that of the Indian quarters. The wind & the walk at the beach of Pondicherry ended the day well for us. The guide, Hareesh went beyond to bring us around and shared much knowledge for our learning and understanding about Pondicherry✨️ Kudos to Hareesh 🤸
Auroville was an unexpected surprise, It has a lot of history. My Guide was very informed and I am happy with this Tour and I would do this again.
