A historic town situated on the left bank of the river Neretva, Pocitelj is protected National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina and an open air museum. In 1996 Pocitelj was named by the World Monuments Watch as one of the world's 100 most endangered cultural heritage sites.
A Serbian Orthodox monastery dedicated to the Annunciation located some 30 km from Mostar.
