120 min

Tibetan Quarter nearby Wuhou Temple; Known as Little Lhasa, Chengdu’s colorful Tibetan quarter is as close as one can get to Tibet without traveling to the remote Sichuan countryside or crossing the border to Tibet itself. Wander down Wuhouci Heng Jie, directly opposite Wuhou Temple, and take in the sights: monks wrapped in maroon robes counting beads behind their backs, vendors selling yak butter on the street, and shop after shop of Tibetan Buddhist religious icons, prayer flags and wheels, tapestries, incense, wildly patterned leather boots, and beads of every hue, size and price. We will not only walk around this Tibetan Quarter, but also taste Tibetan food like yak meat, drink yak butter tea, together with a Tibetan culture demonstration by our guide.

60 min

Just outside Wuhou Temple is Jinli Street, a narrow street of shops, restaurants and craft stalls. The architecture of this quaint pedestrian street mirrors the Qing Dynasty style of the temple making it one of the most popular Chengdu places of interest.

Wonderful experience

We had a very lovely experience with our guide, Danielle. She was friendly, attentive, patient and knowledgeable about Chengdu and the places we visited. Now we know there is more to Chengdu than it being “the place to see pandas”. I would like to thank Danielle and Bruce for proposing an itinerary that fit our whole family’s preferences (we have a pre-teen and 2 teenagers). We had a very enjoyable time yesterday, visiting the Panda Sanctuary, drinking tea with locals at an ancient teahouse, and exploring the streets of old Pengzheng. Our last stop - the East Suburb Memory - an old industrial area converted into an arts, fashion and entertainment venue - was also a refreshing experience. We only wished we had more time in Chengdu. Will definitely return again in the near future and look up Danielle to be our guide.
