Octopus Route: Half Day Boat Trip

Description
This Octopus Route boat tour takes you through the stunning Ria Formosa Natural Park, with stops at Santa Luzia, known as the octopus capital of the Algarve, and the beautiful Terra Estreita beach. Along the way, you’ll cruise past saltpans, oyster and clam farms, and the islands of Cabanas and Tavira, enjoying memorable coastal views. What makes this tour unique is its mix of nature, local culture, and gastronomy. In Santa Luzia, guests have around 90 minutes of free time to explore independently, without a guide. You can choose how to spend your stop, whether discovering the fishing quarter, learning about traditional octopus fishing, strolling through the village, or enjoying lunch at a local restaurant. The tour then continues to Terra Estreita beach, where there is time to relax, walk along the sand, or swim. This experience is ideal for food lovers, culture seekers, families, and travelers looking for a relaxed and authentic way to experience the Ria Formosa.

Really nice trip, relaxed, great captain. Recommend Great value Lovely day out, town, beach and company
A beautiful boat trip down the Ria Formosa, at a perfect pace. Enough time to enjoy the river and marshes. Thanks to staff at ticket hut and our excellent and friendly guide Nuno. It was great and will go again another time👍
Lovely tour, Johnny was a great guide and shared lots of interesting little details. Beautiful scenery and we had the perfect weather!
We booked this tour to learn more about the local history, octopus culture and wildlife, as advertised on the website and brochure. Unfortunately our guide did not talk to the group at all. He did not explain what we were seeing or where we were. He just dropped us off at Santa Luzia where he informed us we had 1,5hrs to find lunch and afterwards to the beach (he didn’t mention which beach it was) where he said again we had to be back in 30 minutes. Other than that no talking or explaining anything. For 35 euro per person we could have just booked a water transport. Since we felt ripped off we went to the booth of the organizer in Cabanas, but the girl just said she was sorry our expectations were not met and that it was our right to mention this in our review. Although we visit the region quite often, we will definitely not book other tours with Passeios Rio Formosa.
An interesting trip through the estuary. It was a long stop for lunch and would have preferred more time on the boat seeing the scenery. The skipper explained things as we passed them in good English and other languages for other passengers. Unless you want a hearty lunch Santa Lucia is not very interesting, but the octopus trail signs are very interesting. Pity we did not have any time to stop for a swim. The stop at terra Estrelia was very brief and gave just enough time to walk from the jetty to the beach, say " yes very beautiful" and walk back. On the boat we saw salt production, which the skipper explained in detail and lots of flamingos.
What made this boat trip exception was Capt. Stevens - he was informative and articulate. He gave us historical, latest information regarding Weymouth Harbour. He also navigated us through choppy water. I was so distracted by the information and the views I forgot to take any photos but I hope to be down that way again later in the year and I will do the trip again We saw seals sunbathing on the rocks which was very entertaining,. Water skiers coming slightly too close for comfort to our boat, but Capt. Stevens stayed his course and remained calm which had a calming effect on me. the boat trip was £15 for 1 hour. I asked about the strange name of the boat and he said it was because of his mother; when she arrived home from work she would shout "Cooee I'm home". I thought that very sweet. Kat
George was very informative, knowledgeable and friendly. There was a good balance between tour and free time to explore on your own. Thanks, George!
Nice boat Ride. Roberto was a great guide and explained us so much. However we do think the tour is very expensive for what it offers. Not even a drink or a snack was given. Plus, we would suggest changing the order of the tour. We were rushed to lunch and then we only had half hour at the beach. It would be nicer to go for a swim with a bit more time and then go for lunch. Unfortunately I think the tour should be half the price of what is asked. Specially when the ferry is so cheap.
It was a great experience. The guide was really friendly and informative. He went above and beyond. I recomend for a relaxing afternoon.
An amazing afternoon getting to know the in's and out's of Ria Formosa. The guide was great and recommend to whoever wants to learn more about this place.
