Itinerary
At the Tule Tree, travelers will discover one of the most impressive natural symbols of Oaxaca. It is a majestic egg cellar more than 1,200 years old, recognized worldwide for having the widest trunk on the planet. During the visit, you can walk around the perimeter of the tree, take a close look at the natural figures that form on its trunk — animals and faces identified by local tradition — and listen to the guide’s explanation of its history, origin and cultural significance for the community. There will also be time to take pictures, enjoy the surroundings and get to know the atmosphere of the village that has grown up around this millennial giant. This stop offers a brief but memorable experience, ideal for connecting with the nature, history and identity of Oaxaca.
In Teotitlán del Valle, travelers will discover one of the most emblematic craft traditions of Oaxaca: the manufacture of handwoven wool mats. During the visit, you will know the complete creation process, from the natural spinning and dyeing of wool with cochineal grain, plants and minerals, to the weaving in pedal loom. Craftsmen will explain the meaning of Zapotec designs, inspired by pre-Hispanic symbols, nature and the ancestral worldview. Travellers will be able to watch live demonstrations, learn how the different natural colours are obtained and have time to admire and purchase authentic mats directly from family workshops, supporting the local economy. This experience offers a genuine approach to Zapotec culture and a tradition that has been passed down through generations.
In Mitla, travelers will explore one of the most unique archaeological sites in Mexico, famous for its impressive stone grecas, unique in Mesoamerica. During the guided tour, you will learn about the importance of Mitla as an ancient Zapotec ceremonial center, as well as its spiritual and symbolic function. The guide will explain the meaning of geometric patterns, carved with millimeter precision, representing the link between life, death and the spiritual world. Travelers will walk through stone courtyards, palaces and corridors, while discovering the history, architecture and cultural legacy that distinguishes this site. The experience is complemented by time to take pictures, enjoy the surroundings and understand why Mitla is considered one of the most mystical archaeological sites in Oaxaca. After visiting Mitla, travelers will enjoy a gastronomic break with regional buffet; it is not included and is at the expense of the traveler.
At Hierve el Agua, travelers will visit one of the most spectacular natural landscapes in Oaxaca. This site is famous for its petrified rock formations, known as “waterfalls”, created by mineral seepage from water over thousands of years. During the visit, you can walk along the trails, admire the panoramic views of the Oaxacan valley and relax in the natural pools, from where you get one of the best postcards in the state. The guide will explain the geological origin of the place and its natural and cultural importance. There will be time to take pictures, enjoy the surroundings and connect with nature in a quiet and unique atmosphere, making this stop one of the most memorable moments of the tour.
In Santiago Matatlan, known as the mezcal capital of the world, travelers will experience an authentic experience around this iconic Oaxacan drink. During the visit to the so-called King of Matatlan, they will know the traditional process of making mezcal, from the cultivation of agave to cooking, grinding and artisan distillation. Mezcal masters will explain the difference between agave types, ancestral methods and the cultural significance of mezcal in local life. The experience is complemented by a guided tasting, where travelers will learn to identify aromas, flavors and characteristics of each variety. This stop offers a genuine approach to one of the most representative traditions of Oaxaca, combining culture, history and flavor in a local and authentic atmosphere.

I liked Mitla, but it is certainly better Monte Albán, although Hierve el Agua is a surprising natural attraction and there is also the opportunity to swim in a natural pool. I liked the variety of this tour.
Boil the water and the experience of knowing in a palenque the whole process of the mezcal.
He was surprised with the attractions we experienced during this experience. If you are a fan of Liquor I recommend taking a good bottle of Mezcal.
