This was a complete mess. We booked for an 8.00 a.m. start. At 8.03 I sent a whatsapp to make sure contact was made, and was told to wait. After several other messages, I got a message at 8.53 that a someone was on their way. After a long story, the hotel got involved, and they got word that a boat was waiting outside at 10.40 a.m. (Note, I was expecting a driver in the lobby). After some confusion it was understood that this was our boat for the Nubian village and we set off. (Last message was "the reservation includes only a car and a driver and this has been supplied" what are they talking about?) The young boat man was a nice person and it wasn't his fault (I think), but he was also the guide and his English was marginal. He pointed out some things from the boat but it was difficult to hear over the noise of the motor. THen to the village. The Nubian house we visited was set up for 100 visitors or so, so is hardly typical. The lady served tea without a smile, and the man showed us his baby crocodile. Then we walked in the village. No insight, no stories, no background., no exploring backstreets. If I didn't know what a Nubian was before, I still didn't. The only "Friendly locals" were the shopkeepers trying to sell us something. We were surprised that after 10-15 minutes we turned back. However, it was so hot (remember we booked for 8.00 a.m. to avoid the midday sun!) we did not complain. We made our way back, with a brief stop so that the driver could sell us jewelry. We whole trip took less time than our waiting time! I won't forget the day. The tour could be good. Also, I won't forget to avoid Emo Tours who were organizers.
Meriem is the best guide ever!! Very professional, it was a pleasure to have her as guide. Thank you !
