Like other coastal settlements in the area, its inhabitants historically relied solely on pearling and fishing for sustenance. Together with Al Khor City, roughly 1,392 hectares of mangroves are found just off the coast, making the coastline between Al Thakhira and Al Khor City the most densely populated mangrove habitat in Qatar. Al Zubara Fort is a historic Qatari military fortress built under the oversight of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani in 1938. This 20th century fort is the youngest and most prominent feature of the Al Zubarah Archaeological Site, a UNESCO World Heritage site.A pristine example of a typical Arab fort, its one-meter-thick walls warded off invaders and helped keep rooms cool during the hot summer. The fort, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in recognition for its preservation and as a unique example of a formative period, is the perfect place for fans of Middle Eastern history to learn more about military life in Qatar in the 18th and 19th centuries.

On the northwest coast of Qatar lies the small traditional village of Al Jumail. It was once inhabited by the Al Kubaisi family, and to date is a favourite weekend destination for local families since it represents their heritage, history, and ancestral roots. The village comprises a set of important traditional buildings, including a small mosque with its minaret still intact. This village dates back to the early nineteenth century and was still inhabited until the mid-twentieth century.

Perfect summer afternoon in north Qatar

Brilliant afternoon with Zubair going north from Doha on a boiling summer day. Well planned and organized itinerary, very good vehicle and attentive, knowledgeable and zen guide/driver. Highly recommended if you have some time and want to get out of Doha.

The North of Qatar - great tour

We contacted Qatar International Tours from our hometown (Munich, Germany) by email to arrange a trip through the north of Qatar. Communication was easy, replies were very fast, and we received a great offer, which we paid before traveling. Once in Qatar, we stayed in touch via WhatsApp to organize meeting points and schedules. Everything went smoothly and effortlessly. We were picked up at our hotel in central Qatar and started our tour at 8:30 a.m. Our first stop was Al Khor, where we visited the fish market and went kayaking in the young mangroves that are now growing in Qatar. The boats were safe and family-friendly, making the experience easy and enjoyable for everyone. Our tour guide, Mr. Prakash, knew the best timing, so we went at high tide, which allowed us to see the mangroves’ famous highlights: fish breeding grounds, colorful birds, and more. We had a small hiccup, we forgot our change of clothes at the hotel—but Mr. Prakash took us to a mall so we could buy dry clothes, turning it into a fun little adventure. Lunch at an Arabian restaurant was amazing, so many flavors, and truly delicious! Afterward, we visited the UNESCO World Heritage sites and returned to our hotel around 6 p.m. We are especially grateful to Mr. Prakash, who shared so much knowledge about Qatar, its history, and how life works in a country where people from so many different nations live together. Thank you so much for your kindness and hospitality.

Great time!

Zubair was a fantastic guide! We spent enough time at each of the destinations and took plenty of photos. We got to ask lots of questions about all things Qatar!

Very Professional and Accommodating!

It was a great experience with Adventure Time Tourism. I had the pleasure of the tour arrangement with Mehti for sales and Abdul Sattar as the driver. Both gentlemen were very accommodating, hospitable and professional. With a special request, they allowed the addition of one location to the tour with a fee, as well as change the drop off location so I can continue with my own exploring of Qatar. The driver Abdul was very good. He spoke very clearly and well, and his driving was so comfortable that I napped easily while commuting between tour sites. Well done!! Have faith and book your tours with this company!

North tour was great!

Great tour of the north. Private so on your own terms. Zubair was informative and patient with my many questions and time at the site. It’s a great tour. Only downside is that I visited Qatar in summer- go a different time of year of your schedule allows when it is cooler. The fort and archeological site was amazing!!!
