Didn’t meet expectations

As a quilter, this was always talked about as the Holy Grail of quilting. I was excited to visit on our way to a family gathering in NC. I was surprised it was so small. My idea of a National Quilt Museum would have some heritage, history and American made quilts. No history at all. They could have early quilts, Civil War quilts, Victorian crazy quilts and Depression flour sack quilts. There are quilts from people from China, Japan etc. Not much in traditional quilts. It felt more like I was at some artsy exhibit. Mostly contemporary with bright colors. I’ve actually seen more quilts displayed at the Missouri State Fair. The more I think about it the more disappointed I am. We got there at opening on a Sunday. Was there a little over an hour. When we were leaving 3 tour buses were unloading. So go early if you’re interested. After that we wanted a bite in town but the local places were closed. Wanted to go to the Hancock fabric place, closed also. So we moved on. I’m glad I didn’t make a special trip just for this.

Loved Everything

Amazing ! I went to the book signing and to see the Tula exhibit and was not disappointed. Tula was gracious and signed many items as Cameron took pictures of us. I was completely star struck! The 20 years of Tula left me speechless, everything was gorgeous. The Janet Stone exhibit was impressive. The fact someone could make a quilt so beautiful. The entire experience was great, I am so glad I went.

Wonderful

Very interesting. One does not have to be a quilter, or even a sewer, to appreciate the beautiful pieces. This level of quilting is like any other good art work only the medium is fabric, not paint or clay or metal.

Details, creativity, amazement!

I have family that have hand sewn quilts, and I have a great appreciation. I have also made a couple of simple lap quilts. This was on our way from southern Illinois to Nashville and we thought we’d give it a try. Student admission was only 5.00, and my boyfriend got in free for the month of November as a veteran. The price was right and the quilts were amazing. We experienced everything from “art” and functional quilts to tiny quilts for miniature beds. There was something for everyone with an appreciation for detail and creativity. I would recommend for a couple hr break in your travels.

Extraordinary works of art!

Anyone who appreciates the art of quilting will enjoy this museum. It houses some incredible pieces from all across the country. The colors, designs and intricate stitch work are awe inspiring. There are four galleries which house different exhibits of various themes. It takes about an hour to go through. This museum is a hidden gem and definately worth the stop!
