Itinerary

20 min

Our tour starts from Jvari Monastery ancient temple dates back to the 6th century nearby the ancient capital Mtskheta, located on the top of a high mountain, from where picturesque views of the neighborhood open, at the intersection of stormy waters of the Aragvi and Kura rivers. The temple attracts thousands of tourists because of its architecture, location and historical value. The name of the church is translated from Georgian as “the cross” and has its own history wich we will tell you there.

45 min

Next, we continue to the ancient capital of Georgia — Mtskheta, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mtskheta has been inhabited for more than 2,600 years and once served as the capital of the early Georgian Kingdom of Iberia. From the parking area, we will walk to the historical center of Mtskheta, passing through its charming narrow streets filled with souvenir shops, wine tastings, and traditional Georgian sweets. The highlight of our visit will be the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, the burial site of Christ’s Robe and one of the most sacred and revered places in Georgia.

60 min

Our next stop is the city of Gori, the hometown of Joseph Stalin, the most famous Georgian leader of the Soviet Union. Here, you will visit the Stalin House-Museum and learn about his life. Guests will see his original house where he was born, his office, personal items like his pipe, cigars, and telephone, his railway carriage, and much more.

60 min

Next stop is Uplistsikhe – “The Fortress of God.” It is one of the oldest places in the world, an ancient 3,000-year-old cave city carved into the rock. Long ago, it was an important center for Georgia’s culture, religion, and politics. Uplistsikhe is special because it still keeps buildings and caves from different times in history. Today, about 150 caves remain. During our tour, we will see some of the most interesting ones — the tunnel, the Sun Temple, the Royal Hall of Queen Tamar, the winery, the 6th-century church, the old library, and even an ancient pharmacy carved in stone.

Excellent tour with our great guide George!

Our guide picked us up on time from our hotel and we set out for Mtskheta (the ancient capital of Georgia) and Jvari Monastery...the traffic in Tbilisi is a nightmare and George handled it well and safely! He provided lots of history and information about the sites we visited and was amenable to our request to omit Stalin's Museum and replace with a visit the The Chronicle of Georgia....thank you for that.....our favourite part of the tour and definitely worth seeing. The Caves of Uflistsikhe were disappointing, due to some rain, which made them a little slippy to clamber over and unfortunately after spending time in Cappadocia, a little disappointing, in comparison. Highly recommend you do this tour from Tbilisi and request George for an enjoyable day!
