Itinerary
Check in at Fort Hays Headquarters between 7:30-7:45am where you get your paper tickets for your breakfast, bus assignment and your assigned seats for the Chuckwagon Supper and Show. Then go get your all you can eat cowboy breakfast. Nothing better than home made cowboy pancakes, biscuits and gravy, sausage links with a hot cup of coffee to get the day started.
The bus departs at 9am and heads for Mount Rushmore! You will have a little over an hour to look around at your own convenience and enjoy the sites and beauty that you came to South Dakota for. We stop here first because Mount Rushmore is at it's best in the morning sun. Gutzon Borglum carved this mountain facing east towards the morning sun and intended it to be viewed this way.
After leaving Mount Rushmore we will travel along the Iron Mountain Road. A beautiful 17 mile road of breath taking scenery featuring 3 one lane tunnels that perfectly frame Mount Rushmore.
We stop for lunch inside Custer State Park at the Game Lodge and previous summer White House for president Calvin Coolidge. Try the Buffalo Stew, it's the best you will ever find!
After lunch we depart for the Needles Hwy. This 14 mile scenic drive is sure to leave you breathless and awe struck at amazing beauty of the Black Hills. Sit back and enjoy the ride and watch the crowd gather around when we drive the bus through the Needles Eye Tunnel. With only inches to spare on each side of the bus you can relish in the fact that you are not the one driving.
Take a rest stop and coffee break at the beautiful Sylvan Lake. This is among the crown jewels of Custer State Park and the beauty within it.
We spend about an hour at Crazy Horse Memorial. You are on your own to spend this time enjoying this piece of history in the making. Upon completion it will be the largest mountain carving in the world! Truly a piece of awe inspiring history being worked on every day.
The tour package ends back at Fort Hays to include the Chuckwagon Supper and Live Music Show. This chuckwagon meal is sure to leave you with a full belly. The show is a Branson style variety show to include music for all ages to enjoy. Rate the best family entertainment in the Black Hills.

This was a great tour. We made the right decision for sure . Our tour bus drivers name was Dan and he was knowledgeable and had no problems navigating the bus through the tunnels and Custer Park The dinner afterwards was fun and very entertaining . Alot of the music is from the "70s" which was perfect ! We cant stop talking about it . Definitely recommend this bus tour , to Mount Rushmore , and Custer Park. Also the breakfast and supper was included . The biscuits were probably the best I've ever had and Supper was really good too. No complaints at all! Thanks for a great day!
Very patriotic and we loved it. Mount Rushmore was amazing. It was very Kavina and easy to get around an excellent tour guide.
This is an awesome value. When you factor in the breakfast and dinner with show it comes to be a little over $100.00 for the actual tour. There was about 20 or so on the tour, so it was not crowded and the bus was air conditioned. Thankfully as they were in the middle of a heat wave. Our driver as awesome, friendly and knowledgeable. We got to see all the main spots one would want to do while in this area all in one day and did not have the stress of driving, getting lost or hungry. Very relaxing. There is an optional lunch for purchase and would recommend that as well. Did not feel rushed at all and left after the fantastic dinner and show knowing that we got it all in.
Absolutely wonderful day! Ken, our bus driver, was very informative and funny. We enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks so much!
It’s a lot of time spent on the bus, but the bus driver (Ken) was excellent. He entertained us with history and funny anecdotes, and was a skilled driver. You may wish you had more time at the major stops, but it’s a good overview. Many bucket-list stops included. The food is not fancy or modern but is nicely prepared and decent home- cooking style fare. The surprising aspect for me was the band/music program included at the end, following the Chuckwagon dinner. I had moderate expectations, but it was excellent! This is a great value Viator excursion, especially for. the price. Helpful staff. Even my 16 years grandson enjoyed it.
Great tour. Ken was excellent
We sure do agree, partner! Ken's downright amazin' ! Much obliged fer spendin' the day with us and lettin' us take the reins 'n spin some tales! Hope to see ya again on yer next ride to the hills!
The breakfast is not so good. The tour on the bus was amazing. Dan, the driver and guide was caring, professional and entertaining.
Thanks fer ridin' out with us fer the day! Mighty glad to hear Dan kept ya entertained! He's a charmer whether he's on the bus or ticklin' them keys on stage! Sorry 'bout that breakfast not meetin' yer standards, which means it ain't met ours neither. We'll sure look into what went wrong that day and do our darndest to fix it. We sure hope to see ya again real soon, partner!
Busses were clean. Driver(Mike) was safe and knowledgeable. He took pictures for guests and we never felt rushed.
Much obliged fer spendin' the day with us! We sure enjoyed havin' ya! Come on back 'round next time yer in these parts!
It's a long day, 14 hours. The guide, Dan, was wonderful and informative and funny. He really did a great job. The show after the tour was fantastic and I almost skipped it because we were quite tired, but we were very glad we stayed.
We know the day's a long ride, but it's a hoot! I always say folks oughta stick around for that grub, 'cause ya gotta fill yer belly, so why not join the evening jamboree? We're mighty pleased ya chose to hang out with us, and we sure enjoyed havin' ya here! Come on back real soon!
We enjoyed our day! It was so nice to have Ken tell us all about the area, navigate the Black Hills and take us to all of the local attractions. The bus was clean, comfortable and we thought the time at each attraction was just right. Would highly recommend Ken as he was funny and told many stories! Highly recommend!
Mighty kind words ya got there! Ken's got charm in spades with his smarts, a knack for wranglin' a vehicle, and a way with words that’ll capture your heart! He spins tales that'll light a fire in ya to learn more! We're tickled pink he made your visit a hoot, and we sure appreciate ya spendin' time with us! Swing by and holler at us next time yer passin' through!
