The Monastery is Orthodox and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The monastery dates back to the age of the emperor Justinian 6th century. It was the same time of building an enclosure wall surrounding the monastery right now but the monastery was named Saint Catherine at the beginning of the 11th century in honor of saint Catherine, one of the earliest Alexandria Christian martyrs. Very good experience the guide very friendly and quiet. The climb in one part is very heavy but it is possible to do it, very cold , I recommend carrying cash to buy tea/coffee and rent blankets.Super recommend the experience
A great experience! Under the clear starry sky, it goes up to 2285 meters in altitude to see a beautiful sunrise. We were now on site in February and it was really cold upstairs! Please prepare clothing. On the way there are several small "huts" where you can snap and it is a little warmer. Approx. 50 meters below the summit is the last hut with hot drinks and the possibility to borrow a blanket for about 4 euros, which can also be taken up to the summit. Our guide was super nice. At about 9 am you are back at the parking lot.
The hike up the mountain and down again was amazing. Can highly recomend it to anyone. The guides and everyone else involved were extremely helpful. Highly reccomend
I didn’t actually take the trip because, on that day, I did three scuba dives and realized it would be risky to go above 600 meters only 15 hours after. The tour company, however, was very kind and tried to find alternative solutions so I could still do the tour. They even offered me a very good price to reschedule for the next day, but unfortunately, I had to cancel again due to lingering post-dive symptoms. Highly recommended for their professionalism and understanding.
Once in your life you must climb this mountain. Its not possible to describe. Need to feel that spscial atmosphere. Hike at night is not easy, but worth milion times. When you see sunrise on the top of the mountain, it is just breath and mind taking. Do not forget warm clothes.
Every thing was amazing perfect location very nice foods extraordinary services accordingly one of the great experience thanks.
