Itinerary
Take a relaxed 30-minute break at Fairlie Bakehouse. It’s the perfect spot to grab a fresh pie and coffee, stretch your legs, and enjoy a quick treat before you continue your journey.
Lake Tekapo, located in New Zealand's South Island, is renowned for its striking turquoise waters, a result of glacial silt suspended in the lake. Situated at an elevation of 710 meters, it spans approximately 83 square kilometers. The area is part of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, offering exceptional stargazing opportunities due to minimal light pollution. Notable landmarks include the Church of the Good Shepherd, a historic stone chapel on the lake's shores, and the vibrant lupin blooms that adorn the landscape from mid-November to December. The surrounding region also boasts hot springs and various hiking trails, making Lake Tekapo a favored destination for both relaxation and adventure.
Lake Pukaki is the largest of three parallel alpine lakes in New Zealand's South Island, covering an area of approximately 178.7 square kilometers. Its distinctive blue color comes from glacial flour—fine rock particles suspended in the water. The lake is fed by the Tasman River, originating from the Tasman and Hooker Glaciers near Aoraki/Mount Cook. Elevations range between 518.2 and 532 meters above sea level. Lake Pukaki is integral to the Waitaki hydroelectric scheme, with dams and canals connecting it to nearby lakes for power generation.
NZ Alpine Lavender near Aoraki/Mt Cook: largest certified organic farm in the Southern Hemisphere (600m). Visit Dec-Mar for blooming lavender amidst stunning alpine scenery: clear skies, snowy peaks, turquoise rivers. Unique climate yields potent, pure oil. Discover NZ-made products: organic oil, soaps, aromatherapy. Experience alpine purity.
Tasman Glacier (South Island, NZ): NZ's longest (~23.5km), thickest (~600m), and largest by ice volume. Retreating rapidly, forming Tasman Lake with icebergs. Lower section covered in rock debris. Popular for boat tours and scenic flights. Named after Abel Tasman. Accessible from Mt Cook Village. A powerful display of glacial change.
Stop at Mount Cook and then continue to the Lake Mueller Lookout. Take your time to enjoy the sweeping views of the glaciers and the rugged alpine landscape. It’s a short walk with a rewarding backdrop that feels straight out of a postcard.

Great full-day tour to Aoraki / Mount Cook and Lake Tekapo. Stunning alpine scenery, turquoise lakes, and snow-capped peaks. The guide was informative and friendly, with well-timed stops for photos and short walks. A smooth, comfortable trip that captures the South Island’s natural beauty in one unforgettable day.
Our driver / guide Jatin was brilliant ! Very knowledgeable and tried so hard all day. Lake Tekapo was incredible, absolutely beautiful. Reason for only 4 stars was because its such a long way away. 3 hours each way. No body to blame there but it was a very long way. Great day on the whole ; we didn't do Mount Cooke because of our ship port times
Amazing Lake Tekapo and Mountain Cook day tour… stunning views, smooth trip, totally worth it!!!! Very well organised !!! A big thumbs up for the team👍
We had wonderful time during the tour. Our guide JB was friendly and flexible with our preferred schedule. We had a last minute schedule change due to weather (not related to the tour itself), JB was very flexible and helpful, taking us to beautiful hiking trail, seeing Tasman Lake/River closely. We also had so much fun seeing Lupins near Lake Tekapo, and enjoyed delicious alpine salmon near Lake Pukaki! JB was very knowledgable about the area and routes, making the tour so special!

Every detail of the trip was carefully organized, from pick-up to drop-off. The landscapes of Mount Cook and Lake Tekapo are incredible, and having such a professional and friendly team made the experience even better. Will definitely book again!
Our guide was amazing! Knowledgeable, friendly, and made sure everyone was comfortable throughout the day. I learned so much about the area and had plenty of time to take in the sights. The Nature’s Trail team made this day trip smooth, enjoyable, and truly memorable.
It went above and beyond to make our trip unforgettable. From helping us with local transport to recommending amazing places to eat, every detail was taken care of. We learned so much and had so much fun. Couldn’t have asked for a better guide!
The places we visited were absolutely beautiful, and it felt like we got to see a mix of popular spots and hidden gems. There was plenty of time to explore, take photos, and just soak it all in. Also, bonus points for the comfy van and the snacks – it’s the little things! Everything went smoothly and felt really personal – not like one of those big, rushed tours. You could tell the team cared about making the day special. Honestly, one of the best tours I’ve done. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to explore without the stress of planning!
From start to finish, everything was super well organised and easy. The guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole group feel welcome and relaxed. We got to see some amazing spots that I probably wouldn’t have found on my own, and the pace of the day was just right – not rushed at all. There were a few surprise stops along the way too, which made it feel even more special. Really appreciated how smooth everything ran, from pickup to drop-off. You can tell the team genuinely loves what they do. I’d definitely book another tour with them next time I’m in the area! Highly recommend to anyone visiting and wanting to make the most of their trip. 👏
