Mount Bromo Sunrise 1 Day Private Tour

Mount Bromo sunrise tour from Surabaya was the highlight of my recent holiday in East Java. I had been in contact with Bima who shared details about this tour from Surabaya and I finally managed to take this tour in June 2026. I was picked up from my hotel in Surabaya close to midnight by guide Ray, and we headed onto the national highway towards Sukapura. The first leg of this journey took about 2 hours to reach Sukapura with several stops along the highway for refreshments. From Sukapura, the journey continued on an uphill winding road til we reached Probolinggo area before 3am. Ray was very alert and careful during the journey. Felt very comfortable and safe despite the hour and pitch dark roads to finally reach Probolinggo. From that point, we had to then change vehicles into a jeep to proceed further uphill to the various sunrise lookout points. That leg of the journey can only be done using jeeps and it was an adventure in itself. The jeeps were mainly driven by members of the Tengger community who lived in the area around Mount Bromo, and they are very skilled experienced drivers as that leg of the journey involved not only uphill winding stretches but also driving on the black sands around the base of Mount Bromo in pitch dark roads. As Ray also accompanied me in the jeep, and was well versed in the local language, I could communicate with the driver from the Tengger community through Ray. We reached the start of the King Kong Hill sunrise viewpoint before 4am and rested at a local cafe situated nearby for coffee. There were already many tourists gathered there waiting for sunrise. At about 4.50am, we slowly walked towards the viewpoint and were very very fortunate and blessed to catch a spectacular view of the sunrise and the colors of the changing landscape as it was a clear day. Ray helped with the photos and he took some fantastic memorable photos for me. I had plenty of time to stand and enjoy the breathtaking out of this world view of the full splendor and surreal sceneries of Mount Bromo. After the sunrise view, we headed back into our jeeps and started the descend down onto the black sands safari around Mount Bromo. Here we stopped in the middle of the black sands surrounded all sides by the mountains and volcanic Mount Bromo for photography. Ray was creative in suggesting some very unique photography poses on the jeep with the backdrop of Mount Bromo. One of my best photography moments! Truly enjoyed the whole experience. We then walked on the black sands to the Pura Luhur Poten temple located near the foothill of Bromo for take in the views. Once done, we again got onto the jeeps and headed for breakfast which was sumptuous before heading to the drop-off point to transfer back into our car to head back to Surabaya. This excellent tour is one of the main reasons why I will return to East Java again! Special thanks to both Bima for organizing this tour and to Ray for being with me throughout the tour.

It was an amazing experience with our highly motivated, entertaining, and considerate guide Sreng! We were picked up directly from our hotel which was very convenient, and the drive to the hill area was smooth. We were always cared for well and the sunrise scenery as well as the hike to the top of Mount Bromo were unforgettable! We highly recommend this to anybody who likes adventures!

I spent 2 day trips with Adet as my guide. he was very polite and friendly, the car was clean and comfortable. He helped me climb to King Kong Hill, we went together to the Bromo crater and we talked a lot, I was literally to be there with friend. He takes nice pictures too. The next day he drove me from Surabaya to Tumpak Sewu and handed me to very nice local guide. I highly recommend to pick the tours with this company.

Highly recommended excursion if visiting Indonesia. Seeing the sunrise with the views of the Brome is worth it, despite the early morning, contact with local people, the organization of transports, guides ... Especially, highly recommended our guide, Pramesti ♥️, who made the experience an unforgettable day, accompanied us at all times and took many photos for the memory.

Zidny is the best guide we ever met! So nice, helpful, deep discussions. And Diki is a very good driver and so nice as well! The bad thing was that at the end of the day we had to leave them.

I had a great time on this tour! My driver Ray was super nice and helpful 😊 Even though the sunrise was a little cloudy at this time of year it was still definitely worth it and it is also less crowded than during the dry season which is a plus!
