One time experience

We visited the Moonstone Mine and Factory in Meetiyagoda and it was a very interesting experience. During the tour we were shown how moonstones are mined from the ground using traditional methods. It was fascinating to see the deep mining pits and to learn about the hard work involved in finding these beautiful stones. After the mine visit, we went to the factory where the stones are cleaned, cut, and polished. The guide explained the whole process very clearly, from the raw stone to the finished gemstone used in jewellery. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the tour was well organised. At the end there was also a showroom where we could see and buy different moonstone jewellery. Overall, it was an enjoyable and educational visit and a great place to learn about Sri Lanka’s famous moonstones.
