Itinerary
We will discover the history of the beginnings of the Roman city of Cesar Augusta from its Roman Theater. The museum's facilities occupy a plot of land corresponding to important houses from the medieval, renaissance and baroque periods. For this reason, the Museum will reveal a joint vision of interesting remains and samples of the history of Zaragoza from the mentioned periods.
We will visit one of the most important monuments of Zaragoza, the Cathedral of San Salvador or La Seo. It is located where it has always been the religious center of the city. Previously place of the Roman temple and after its mosque. Its origins are from the 12th century, after the conquest by King Alfonso I, a Romanesque-style cathedral, through the years different reforms of different styles have followed it, so we can find the Gothic, the Mudejar, the Renaissance and the Baroque. on its walls.
The Museum exhibits part of the important collection, made up of 63 tapestries from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries, woven in the famous European workshops in Arras, Tournai and Brussels. definitely one of the jewels of Zaragoza.
We will visit the first Marian temple of Christianity. since in it the pillar is preserved and venerated —actually, a jasper column— which, according to tradition, was placed by the Virgin Mary who, while still living in Jerusalem, would have appeared in mortal flesh to the Apostle Santiago on the 2nd January 40. History attests to the existence of a Mozarabic church in Saraqusta dedicated to Santa María, in the same place where the Baroque basilica is currently located. Around this temple lived one of the Christian communities of the city.
Remains of the Roman Wall of about 80 meters in length, at the northwest end of what was the Roman city of Caesaraugusta, built in the 1st century.
We will visit the market designed in 1895 by the Aragonese architect Félix Navarro Pérez to replace the traditional one that was held outdoors in the old market square. Spectacular! Our guide Reuben was extraordinary. It was a pleasure and pleasure to hear them and share with us about their city. Know the city and with a way of communicating that captivates! Just excellent! 100% recommended! Much more than we expected!! Thank you so much!
We had a very interesting and informative tour with Marta, who was knowledgeable and engaging; We learned quite a bit about the history of Zaragoza and the region through visiting the ruins of the Roman amphitheater, Our Lady of the Pillar and La Seo. Particularly enjoyed La Seo because its history and architecture really tell the story of this city and region. Highly recommend!
Our tour guide was very kind and informative. She took her time sharing the vast history of Zaragoza with us and our tour ended up being 30 minutes longer than expected. Due to a wedding, we needed to visit some of the sites out of order. This was not a problem for us but we appreciated the guide keeping us informed. During our tour, we visited the cathedral, the theater and the basilica. Our guide was also kind enough to purchase the ticket upgrade which allowed us access to the Roman Forum. We were able to do this on our own after the tour. The Viator description mentioned that we would also see the Roman walls & the Mercado. Neither of these were visited during our tour. We also did not see the tapestries but this may have been due to the wedding. Overall, it was a very informative tour but we would have preferred to spend less time in the cathedral and been able to visit other sites like the wall or the baths.
We had a wonderful time on this tour. Marta was a fantastic guide - very fun and interesting. We learned so much about Zaragoza. She took us to the Roman ruins. Even though the actual building was closed because it was Sunday we could see the ruins and she explained everything and showed us maps/information on her iPad. She also explained about the town and the church. At the end of the tour she gave us great recommendations for tapas. Would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Zaragoza.
Our tour guide, Marta, made the tour special with excellent English and knowledge of Zaragoza. Zaragoza was a really pleasant and interesting city. Highly recommend!
Very informative tour. Our guide was really friendly and very knowledgeable about the history of Zaragoza and the monuments that we saw. Our tour ended up being 3 hours but did not feel like it. Very interesting, well worth doing.
Our guide, Martin, is a native of Zaragoza and a historian. We learned so much from him and enjoyed his knowledge & enthusiasm. Definitely the way to experience this beautiful city from the perspective of a local!
We had a tour with Marta who is a fantastic guide. She really helped us to understand Spanish history and particularly the changing regimes in the city and how each had shaped its fortunes and growth. Her tour was fascinating and definitely good value for money.
Had a lovely time with Jorge. He was very well informed and passionate about what he said. He was also very thorough and kept the tour interesting throughout. He made the tour very special and I would never have seen or learned so much about Zaragoza if he hadn’t showed me!
He was amazing, very experience and gave us great food recommendations. He was patient and explained everything with details. Great tour guide and will recommend greatly.
