Minneriya National Park is famous for its elephant gatherings. Visitors can see large herds of elephants congregating around the Minneriya Lake to feed and bathe. In addition, the park offers opportunities to experience safaris, view a variety of wildlife/birds, and enjoy beautiful landscapes. You can purchase your own tickets when you enter the park, and I can assist you with that. The safari lasts 3-4 hours, and you can take photos during it.

Minneriya National Park, located in Sri Lanka’s North Central Province, is a wildlife sanctuary famous for its breathtaking scenery and extraordinary elephant gatherings. The park spans over 8,800 hectares and is built around the historic Minneriya Tank, an ancient irrigation reservoir constructed by King Mahasen in the 3rd century AD. This water source plays a crucial role in sustaining the park’s rich ecosystem during the long dry season. The park’s main claim to fame is the Great Elephant Gathering, which takes place between July and September each year. During this period, hundreds of wild Asian elephants migrate from surrounding forests to the tank, forming one of the largest wild elephant congregations in the world. Visitors can witness these majestic creatures up close.

We had an amazing safari experience at Eco Park Hurulu Sigiriya. It was such a beautiful experience to see the animals in their natural habitat. Our guide was incredible — he knew exactly where to find the animals, always respected them and their space, and you could really see how much he enjoys his job. He was very kind, polite, respectful, and spoke English. We felt safe, comfortable, and truly enjoyed every moment of the safari. 100% recommended!
