Mindo – Nambillo is an ecological reserve, with approximately 22.000 hectares of primary forest. Inside this preserved area we can find a natural complex of 15 waterfalls, each one of them with a different height and beauty! Your guide will pick you up at 8:00 a.m. from your hotel in Quito, in order to visit this fascinating place full of wildlife!
Once at 1.900 meters above sea level (6,233 ft), hummingbirds, air plants, orchids and other surprising exotic species will take our full attention! After going all the way through the curvy road, we will stop at a Hummingbirds' farm to enjoy breath-taking experiences with this little creatures and the amazing scenery.
After being taking lots of pictures and slow-mo videos, you'll relax with a cup of coffee at a local coffee plantation. Then you will drive down to Mindo village, which is located at the southern edge of the Choco/Andean hotspots of biodiversity that stretches from south-western Colombia to north-western Ecuador. The Mindo area has international importance for birds, designated as the first area in South America by Birdlife International in 1997. On this enchanting green kingdom a profusion of life awaits your discovery! This is why you will take a cable car ride that goes through a 530 meters-long-cable, to enjoy the landscapes at the other side of the mountains!
After the unforgettable cable car ride, it will be possible to hike around 1 hour, depending on your physical conditions, to visit the most beautiful waterfall known as “Nambillo”, where you could have a refreshing soak! Your private guided tour will acquaint you with the exuberant vegetation of the cloud forest, its birdlife and the fascinating adaptations to life in this special environment.
You will have time for lunch, if you consider necessary. Then you will have an unforgettable and educational dessert on a chocolate-tasting-tour!
If there is some time left it will be possible to do a visit to an orchid and butterfly farm. Approximately at 5:30 p.m. you'll be back in your hotel of Quito. End of this fantastic experience on a day packed of wonderful discoveries!

I love that our tour guide, Deanna, was as passionate about the environment as we were! Because she was so in tune with the experience we were able to see toucans! The entire experience was perfect. This was a terrific one day trip. We did the Hummingbirds, Butterfly area, waterfall hike and the chocolate factory. We had a terrific experience and Ximena was a wonderful guide. Our group was 12 people ranging from 15- 78 and there was enough to do at each location to interest everyone. I would definitely book this experience again on another trip to Ecuador.

Ivan was prompt and professional. He tailored our trip what we wanted to see and do. We saw and did some amazing things. But the highlight was by far the birds and humming birds. The trip to Mindo was fantastic. We were able to choose from several activities presented by our guide to fill in our day. We chose; a walk to a waterfall, viewing hummingbirds, riding a zip line bicycle, taking a gondola ride and having a chocolate tasting activities. Note that most activities have a small fee associated with them outside of booking the guide. From $5 -&10 dollars. Our favorites were the bird watching where we were surrounded by incredibly diverse and beautiful hummingbirds and chocolate tasting where we were walked through all of the steps required to make chocolate from cocao beans then we tasted various flavors of chocolate as well as other chocolate products. Ximena, our guide led us through all activities and provided tons of insight on the culture and history of the place.

This was our favorite individual day in the Quito area. Our guide Ximena was so knowledgeable and friendly.
