Medieval Guimarães- by Dusk or Day time -from Porto or Braga

Description
Fall in love with one of the most impressive cities in the northern region. Guimarães is proudly the cradle of nationality, since in the distant twelfth century, here we gained independence from the kingdom of León, having been established as the capital of the Portucalense County. Since then, the city has maintained its defensive walls, castle, burgh and workers/peasants quarters until the 19th century. Today, we can still marvel at its medieval genesis, with the small squares and narrow streets, in addition to admiring the great monuments and cultural legacy present in every corner of the city. On this visit we will explore the entire area inside and outside the walls, touching on points of interest and curiosities. We also climb by car to the highest point in the surroundings to have the greatest sightseeing spot and discover some hidden gems. If you opt for the sunset/night visit, you will be dazzled with the vibe, lightning and views of the city!

We had such a great day seeing Guimaraes and Braga. Both cities were very interesting and beautiful. After coming from a few days in Porto it was nice not having such steep inclines to walk. Ricardo was our guide and he was very knowledgeable, informative and patient as we tend to wonder off a bit. He has a good sense of humor and is very personable. We learned a lot about Portugal and got a good history base to build on.
Anyone who loves visiting Portugal MUST visit Guimaraes to know how Portugal came to be. Our guide Ricardo was very pleasant, wonderful and gave very detailed history of this region and made a very pleasant walking itinerary to see all the highlights. A very beautiful little town and MUST SEE. Here Portugal was born!! ❤️
Hello Rita. It's so nice to see your kind words and realize that you enjoyed getting to know the beautiful city of Guimarães. Sometimes small cities are a little "undervalued," but this one definitely deserves all the attention, since as you mentioned (Portugal was born here). The city is the cradle of our nationality, the former capital of the country, and the stage for great events in the formation of our nation. Thank you once again for your kindness. All the best, Ricardo Costa
Bruno picked us up at our Porto hotel on time - and we were off! We picked up 2 others in Braga - 2 others from the US. The tour was awesome - while Bruno’s expertise is the national parks he was well versed on the history of Guimares as well as Braga - another historical city we asked if could be included. It was just a great way to see two important cities in the history of Portugal. Thank you Bruno!
Thank you so much for your kind words! It is always a pleasure for us to share our culture, roots and history. These two cities (Braga and Guimarães) are undoubtedly those that most closely related to the founding of our nation - A ton of legacy! On behalf of Bruno and myself, we thank you for your feedback, and of course we will welcome you back whenever wanted, to show you even more of this wonderful Portugal. Cheers,
We did this tour with Paloma, the lover of roofs.....Her explanations, her desire to teach us Guimaraes....Fantastic A 10 for her
Muchas gracias por su simpatía. Me alegra que hayas disfrutado la visita y la ciudad :) Un abrazo!
Well organized city and well preserved monuments, with good explanations about the history, in every era that happened. People helping in information, easy access and proper signalling.
Olá Marcelo, Obrigado pela visita e simpatia! :) Espero vê lo por cá novamente em breve. Grande Abraço!
Guimaraes should be on everyone's list of places to visit in Portugal. The birthplace of Portugal 's fortress and palace are Interesting views into Portugal's beginning. The stone outcropping s add drama to the terrain. The visit was a treat.
Thank you for the sympaty and recomendation. Will wait for your return! :) Best wishes, Ricardo
