Itinerary

Pass by

Square Gambetta is a large square in Carcassonne on the other side of the river Aude and the famous Cité. With this square begins the old walled city, built by King St. Louis of France: La Bastide de Saint Louis. Here you will have to look around to find the answer to our challenge to advance to the new location and learn the story of this place.

Pass by

According to notarial acts, the little chapel Notre Dame de la Santé was built with money from the legacy of Jean de Saix, in 1527, as a hospital for those suffering from the plague. It was considered a faithful guard in that strategic location, the narrow passage between fortified buildings. Here you will have to look around to find the answer to our challenge to advance to the new location and learn the story of this place.

Pass by

At the foot of the Pont-Vieux, on the right bank of the Aude, a facade bears witness to this prosperous period for the city. Former home of a noble Carcassonnaise family, the building was bought in 1694 by someone close to Colbert who founded a cloth factory there. The latter will take the title of Manufacture Royale in 1696. The only building dating from this period, still visible, is the owners' residence. This construction is, in many ways, similar to those of the Lower Town dating from the 18th century. Here you will have to look around to find the answer to our challenge to advance to the new location and learn the story of this place.

Pass by

The church Saint-Gimer was built between 1854 and 1859, by architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. Modesty was one of its stated goals; it has a nave and two aisles and a polygonal apse stationed on two vestries, all preceded by a porch. Here you will have to look around to find the answer to our challenge to advance to the new location and learn the story of this place.

Pass by

Porte de l'Aude is a part of the preserved medieval walled city, this iconic gate overlooks the river. Here you will have to look around to find the answer to our challenge to advance to the new location and learn the story of this place.

Pass by

The Inquisition Museum is located in a large 17th century building and presents a large collection of Instruments of torture, ranging from the 12th century to the French Revolution. It is completed by the various characters who played an important role during this period as well as their biography. You will also find the history of the main Cathar Castles, part of the history of the Inquisition and the riches of our region. Here you will have to look around to find the answer to our challenge to advance to the new location and learn the story of this place.

Pass by

The present Romanesque cathedral started to be built in June 1096. A Lady Chapel was added in the early 15th century, adjoining the infirmary and chapel built by Bishop Radulph in the 1260s. The Château Comtal was built in the 12th century by Bernard Aton Trencavel over the western part of the Roman walls. Here you will have to look around to find the answer to our challenge to advance to the new location and learn the story of this place.

Had fun exploring the...

Had fun exploring the city and found some nice places what I wouldn't encounter otherwise. The statue at the first stop was missing though, however the riddle wasn't hard to solve. :)

Operator response

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you had fun exploring Carcassonne and found some hidden spots you wouldn't have seen otherwise. Thanks for letting us know about the missing statue at the first stop, we will look into that right away. Hope to see you on another quest soon! Thanks, Alex — Founder of Questo

More for younger kids

Quite difficult to get into - our 24 year old daughter had to do it as she's more 'tech' savy. It was ok and quite fun but there were not enough sights or information about places, it was more a fairy story for kids than an actual tour of Carcassonne

Operator response

Thanks for your review! I'm sorry the app felt tricky at first and the story seemed too much like a kids' fairy tale. We actually used your feedback and have since updated the Carcassonne quest to include even more historical facts and sights! Email explore@questoapp.com for a free quest.

Nice and interesting game....

Interesting game for a family moment. Do not hesitate to contact the provider in case of any problems as launching the game is not as simple as it sounds. We lost time from the start because of the explanations that are not as intuitive as it sounds and despite all the applications installed

Operator response

Unable to unlock the quest

For my part I can't give a positive review because it's impossible to unlock the quest...either with the email address where the QR Code! And yet there were several of us and we lost at least 1 hour t of money for nothing...

Nice but pay attention before you buy!

The story itself and the experience was super fun. It was just not clear that we did not have to pay once each. We took the experience for 5 participants but brought 3 small children. They eventually joined me and my wife and because of that I have now bought 3 out of 5 tickets for nothing. So we could have done it with one ticket.

Operator response

Inappropriate for us

Unlocking very complicated, worked after a lot of effort for 2 of 3. History for children. Suitable if you are interested in detailed knowledge and architecture. Diseases, for example, as in the description hardly appear in the explanations.

Operator response

For my part, nowhere does it work...

It never worked... I tried everything for an hour and nothing did.... very disappointed... I lost 11 euros for nothing.

Generally it was good. But the story really fell short.

The questions were nice and it took us to some really good places we would not have seen otherwise. The only problem for me was the story, it was et great and it fell short to what we were hoping for. Very confusing and it did not have much to do with Carcassonne. The historical information was great though!

Operator response

Thanks for your feedback! We’re glad you enjoyed the locations and history. We’ll take a closer look at the story and make improvements. Hope to see you on another adventure soon!
