Itinerary
The first Medici palace, the home of Cosimo the Elder & Lorenzo the Magnificent & the workplace of artists of the calibre of Donatello, Michelangelo, Paolo Uccello, Benozzo Gozzoli and Botticelli. The Renaissance house… where it all began. Towards 1444 Cosimo the Eldest, the patriarch of the Medici family, commissioned to Michelozzo a palace to be built in via Larga (now via Cavour), close to the church of San Lorenzo: the palace is the first Renaissance building erected in Florence. Characterised by clearly delineated and rusticated floors & a huge cornice crowning the roofline, the palace stands out for the arched windows arranged along its front & the partially closed loggia on the corner of the building. In 1517 the original building was altered by closing the loggia & adding the two "kneeling" windows according to Michelangelo's project. The palace continued to be inhabited by the lesser members of the family until 1659, when Ferdinando II sold it to the Riccardi marquises.

This tour was excellent with the best guide we have ever had. We didn’t know what to expect but Sarah made it easy and the way she explained everything was perfect
Absolutely wonderful beautiful private tour. The tour guide was fantastic. She was very nice, funny, thoughtful and very interesting. She really new her history! - I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to know more about the inner lives of the Medici!!!
This is a great tour for learning about or refreshing knowledge of the Medici. Our guide Giacomo was excellent, extremely knowledgeable and very courteous. Highly recommend.
It was difficult to understand. We specified we wanted English and it was bilangual. She was not clear in English. Took twice as long and half as interesting.
Dear Roger Hansen, Hope you are doing well. Thank you for letting us know your point of view. We are very upset to see a 2-star review on a tour everybody loves. About Multilingual mistake: In the part of the remaining information that customers must know before the booking, it was noted that the guide service may be provided in two languages. About the guide: she is our sweet and knowledgeable guide from Ucraine and her English accent has sometimes a Ucrain background that maybe you did not like. Her English is fluent, as she graduated in art history at London University, so she has spent many years in London. In any case, thank you for your remarks. Kind regards, Magelline Team
The tour guide, Cristina, was excellent and her knowledge very good. The tour is “sold” as complimentary to the Netflix Series “Medici” which I have seen and enjoyed. Yet, the tour is more about the architecture of the Medici’s first home with details about them. Definitely not a complimentary tour for the series though. With that being my main objective, to explore areas I have seen on Netflix, this was not that tour.
We were very impressed with this tour. Under Alessandro's guidance, we visited the Palazzo Medici-Riccardi: a Renaissance palace located in Florence. Alessando told us that it was the first palace of the Medici, the home of Cosimo the Elder and Lorenzo the Magnificent and the place of work of artists such as Donatello, Michelangelo, Paolo Uccello, Benozzo Gozzoli and Botticelli. During the tour, our experienced guide told us much about the Medici family, the architecture and culture of medieval Florence. If you are planning to visit Florence and this is your first visit, we recommend choosing this tour. Thanks to all the organizers!
The guide was super sweet however tour wasn’t what we expected, she didn’t relate much to the Medici family but more about what the palace is used for today and a lot about what stones are used on the buildings and no mention of the show. Last half of tour I could have done without. For an English speaking tour I could not understand what the guide was trying to say. I would suggest getting someone who speaks better English and knows more about the Medici family and show.
The tour was very organized. Mario (our guide) was very professional. We have visited the palace of Medici where our guide told us a lot about the family of Medici and we discovered a few secret sides of Florence. This experience is a best way to discover the heart of Tuscany.
The services were organized very professional. The Medici palace is an amazing place where everyone can discovery many significant facts about the Medici family, about the art, architecture and many others….We have visited many other sightings and definitely we can say that this palace is one of the best places in Florence. Susanna was a high-level guide🤍
We liked this experience very much. Giovanna 😘(our guide) told us a lot about the Medici family and together we discovered a lot about the history of Medieval Florence. We highly recommend this tour for all!
