Mateo Peak
Description
A private car will pick you up at ~3AM from your hotel. After a 2h30 drive, you will reach the trailhead in Punta Olimpica. At the first sunrise lights, you will start hiking with our certified mountain guide for 1h on steep moraine rocks, then 1h30 on glacier with crampons and safety rope. You will finally summit the Mateo glacier at 5150m shortly after sunrise!! After enjoying the peak, you will descend for ~1h30 and drive back to Huaraz, arriving around 12AM-1PM.

** IMPORTANT ** We will pick you up from your hostel in Huaraz! But we can only do this if you email / whatsapp: full names of travellers participating, the hostel name and room number immediately after booking has been confirmed. You will also need to come at our agency ONE DAY BEFORE to try the size of the technical equipment.

When I arrived in Huaraz, I felt more excited than ever — the mountains and natural conditions here are just incredible! Compared to China, Europe, and the U.S., it's also much more cost-effective for climbing. During my stay in Huaraz, Mila gave me incredibly thoughtful advice and even lent me some gear. I didn’t feel like just a customer — it felt more like we were long-lost friends meeting for the first time. Through her, I also met many experienced climbers who come here year after year. I truly hope I can do the same and return every year too!

We have been in Huraze for 6 days and Andean Summit arranged all our activities. The highlight of our trip was undoubtedly the ascent of Mateo peak. The climb was exhilarating and challenging, but Andean Summit’s expert guidance made it achievable. They provided all the necessary climbing gear, which was in excellent condition, and our 3 guides' expertise were invaluable in navigating the icy slopes and ensuring we reached the summit safely. Standing atop Mateo peak, surrounded by panoramic views of the Andes, was a moment we’ll cherish forever.
