My partner and I booked this excursion because we had only one day in Marseille during our cruise and wanted something simple and well organized. The experience turned out to be very smooth from start to finish. The tour gave a good overview of the city, especially the coastal viewpoints where we could really appreciate Marseille’s layout and scenery. The guide shared useful information about the city’s history and culture without overwhelming the group. We also had some free time, which we used to walk around, take photos, and enjoy a coffee. It felt like a balanced way to experience the city in a limited timeframe.
I joined this excursion as a solo traveler and found it to be a very comfortable way to see Marseille in a limited amount of time. The views from the stops were beautiful and gave a good sense of the city’s coastal setting. I also appreciated the guide’s commentary, which added helpful context without being too detailed. There was enough free time to walk around independently, which made the experience feel more personal and relaxed.
An incredible day. Our guide didn't just show us history; they helped us navigate a local bakery near the Pantheon for authentic Roman pizza-by-the-slice (pizza al taglio) and the best pistachio gelato I've ever tasted. They managed the timing so perfectly that we even had 20 minutes to sit and people-watch at Piazza Navona.
Our guide Olga was good, but getting to the bus off the cruise ship was confusing and over a meter walk. The bus itself was cramped-some of the seats were stuck in a recline position so there was no leg room, and it was hot. I actually burned my leg on the heat/air register. Several people kept telling the guide team that heat was coming out of the registers but this was dismissed and chalked up to being a hot day. The headsets were also spotty and not working for everyone so we missed a lot of what our guide was saying. Our stop in Aix-de-Provenence was great, but way too short, and then it felt like we were on the bus way too much. We got off the tour before the cathedral stop, which we were sad to miss, but we couldn’t stay on the bus any longer. We enjoyed the rest of our time in Marseille on our own then took a taxi back. We also didn’t want to walk another meter just to get back to the ship after being dropped off. Overall, we would not recommend this tour- using one of the cruise ship sponsored tours (or going on your own) would have been a better option for so many reasons. This was disappointing as we have had great experiences with Viator in the past and are requesting a refund. Again- our guide was full of knowledge and we appreciated her- just not the overall tour. We were way too rushed, spent too much time on a hot bus, and not enough free time to enjoy the stops as advertised.
Thank you for your kind words about our guide. Please allow us to address the concerns raised: 1. According to the guide, your disappointment appears to have stemmed from expecting a private tour. Please note that this has never been advertised as a private tour. Viator private tours are clearly labeled as “Private” directly in the title and usually cost at least three times more than group tours. 2. The distance from any dock to the parking area located inside the cruise port is beyond our control and is determined by the cruise port arrangements and your cruise line. We kindly recommend addressing this concern directly with them. 3. As for the time spent at each stop, the “Additional Information” section of the tour description clearly states the following: “Please note that the sequence of the tour itinerary and the time spent at each location might be adjusted in response to variables like traffic conditions, crowd sizes, and unforeseen events. However, we will do our best to cover all the sites mentioned in the itinerary.” 4. We use modern, fully air-conditioned Mercedes-Benz buses. Any concerns regarding the seating design are related to the vehicle manufacturer and are beyond our control. Your decision to leave the group at the first stop was your personal choice and was beyond our control. When booking with Viator in the future, we strongly recommend basing your expectations on the tour description rather than on personal assumptions. Safe travels.
The Mercedes minivan was pristine, with excellent suspension on those bumpy Roman cobblestones and great phone charging ports at every seat. Our guide used a very clear, light-hearted storytelling style rather than just rattling off dry historical dates. It kept our energy up for the entire day.
Ravello did a great job. We enjoyed the tour through the Rechtstadt in Danzig very much, as Ravello gave us a lot of information, tips for good restaurants and others, and she spoke very loud and clearly. We would always recommend this tour! Thank you very much.
A group of us joined this tour during our cruise stop, and it worked out as a very easy and enjoyable way to see Marseille. Everything was well coordinated, and we didn’t have to worry about transport or timing. The scenic stops were the highlight for our group. We especially enjoyed the panoramic views over the city and harbor, which gave us a good sense of Marseille’s character. There were plenty of opportunities for photos and short breaks. We also appreciated having some free time to explore on our own before returning to the ship. The day felt relaxed and well paced.
As a solo traveler, I wanted something organized but not too rigid, and this excursion met those expectations well. The logistics were easy, and everything ran on time. The viewpoints were particularly memorable, offering a great overview of Marseille and its coastline. I enjoyed learning about the city while still having time to explore independently. It felt safe, comfortable, and well suited for someone visiting Marseille for the first time. A solid choice for cruise passengers.
The bus ride was a little long to begin with, but once you got to where you were going, it was an amazing tour as well. The tour guide gave us specifics and little known facts that were amazing. I would recommend this tour to everyone.
In Marseille we didn’t have much time, but this tour made it work. Everything moved fast but in a controlled way, so we actually saw things instead of just driving around.
