We had an amazing day at the Park. We saw a couple of Agouti as soon as we got into the park. There are raised walkways as well as gravel trails. The day before there was a big rain storm and there were only a few puddles. We saw Howler Monkeys, sloths (two & three toed) capuchin monkeys, tons of land crabs, hermit crabs, a couple of species of frogs (one being eaten by a snake), a couple of black iguana, a Jesus Christ Lizard and a helmet headed basilisk.
Wonderful. Alberto, our guide, has explained everything perfectly, all the patience in the world with everyone, has made fantastic photos. Great connoisseur, you can tell he loves your job.
you definitely need a guide for the NP and you can't go wrong with Toucanes. Our guide was called Alan (I think) and we had a few kids in the group and he was excellent with them. We saw loads of wildlife and got some great photos. would recommend. The beach is lovely - we stayed for an extra hour after the tour ended.
We had a wonderful tour through the national park with Allan Castillo. He is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic and took time to make sure that we saw as many animals as possible. We would highly recommend him
The most amazing aspect of this tour is how our guide, Alberto could see the animals at such a distance. We saw sloths, spiders, crabs, a snake, iguanas and monkeys. He is very knoweledgeable and passionate about conservation.
Brilliant experience with our great guide WARNER. Warner was friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. He gave us lots of information and went out of his way to find and show us wildlife. We highly recommend this company and guide.
Great experience, they walked us through the national park and our tour guides had eagle eyes! They were so knowledgeable and were able to find so many different things in the forest for us to look at. Our group was a pretty good size but everyone was super friendly and made sure everybody had a chance to look at things. The walk itself was not too long and very enjoyable.
Thank you for sharing your experience! We are so glad you enjoyed the Manuel Antonio National Park Guided Tour. "Eagle eyes" is the perfect way to describe our guides | it is amazing how they can pick out a sloth or a tiny frog in all that green. We are also really happy to hear the group dynamic was good. It makes such a difference when everyone is patient and friendly so every single person gets a turn at the spotting scope. We are glad the pace of the walk was just right for you! Our group of four booked two days with Tucanes and the experience was amazing. Our guide for both days, Stephanie, was friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Our time with her made us feel like we were all family. The communication during booking great. The guide communicated with us each day resulting in an easy meetup. Local Flavors Tour On day one we traveled to the family farm where after gathering fresh ingredients from the garden we began our hands on cooking experiences. The cook lead us in chopping, mixing and preparing great dishes. Truly a wonderful experience. Manuel Antonio National Park Don’t try to visit on your own as you will miss so much! Stephanie was amazing and her knowledge of the flora and fauna was truly impressive. Her ability to spot animals was incredible and the overall experience was memorable. When considering a tour from Jaco or Quepos, Tucanes Tours should certainly be on your list.
Thank you for trusting us with two days of your trip! We are absolutely honored to hear that Stephanie made your group feel like family. It sounds like you got the perfect mix of experiences. From harvesting fresh ingredients for that hands-on cooking class | to exploring the deep nature of Manuel Antonio National Park. You are spot on about the park | visiting with a guide completely changes the experience. We are so glad Stephanie's sharp eyes helped you spot the wildlife that is so easy to miss on your own. Thanks for the high praise and for recommending us to future travelers! Pura Vida, The Tucanes Tours Team
Our tour guide Katherine was a DISASTER and frankly a safety hazard. We should have known something was wrong where unlike every other guide at Manuel Antonio she didn’t give us an intro to the park. (Someone later asked who Manuel Antonio is and she responded “he’s Bolivian” and that was it!) We definitely knew something was wrong when it took her MINUTES to set up her scope once (and someone in the group had to ask her to set it up so we could get a closer look at a snake). We watched other guides do this same maneuver in seconds and then watched in dismay as their groups all left well before us as we continued to wait and wait. But the thing that caused us to walk out was that another guide had to stop and tell a member of our group to not leave the path because of the presence of venomous snakes and other dangerous creatures around. Katherine had never mentioned that and watched someone do this and didn’t seem to care. We had our young daughter with us and made an excuse to leave - we just couldn’t live with this risk. We reached out to the company directly to express our concerns and got a generic reply back about how well-trained all their guides are. From our experience — save your money and use it on one of the many many other tour companies out there who care more.
Our guide, Ronald, was good. However, with hindsight (as we had a rental car), we should have booked a private guide and our own tickets to the park. No criticism of the company but a we spent a lot of time with the bus transfer and waiting for other guests. Had we stayed "independent" we could have a spent a lot more time in the park, and at the wonderful beach. We saw sloths, monkeys, iguanas etc., but if you going for the wildlife, there are better and bigger opportunities elsewhere in Costa Rica, especially around Monteverde.
Dear Jim, Thank you for the kind words about Ronald! We are glad he provided a good guiding experience. We appreciate your feedback regarding the logistics. You are spot on, our Group Tours are designed to be an affordable, all-inclusive way to see the park, but they do require shared transport and picking up guests at multiple hotels, which adds travel time. For travelers who (like you!) have a rental car or prefer strictly "independent" timelines, we always recommend our Private Tour option. It eliminates the bus transfers and allows you to enter the park on your own schedule immediately. Regarding the wildlife: We love Monteverde too! It is a totally different ecosystem (Cloud Forest vs. our Tropical Wet Forest). We find Manuel Antonio is unique because you get the monkeys/sloths and the white sand beaches in one single hike; something the mountains can't offer! We hope you enjoyed the rest of your Costa Rica road trip! Pura Vida, The Tucanes Tours Team
