Not wanting to take an excursion while docked in Malaga, we opted for a food tour instead and couldn't have been happier with our decision. The Malaga food tour w/Spain Food Sherpas was the perfect way to spend the day with ideal weather, a great host, and a fun group of other tourists. Our host took us to I believe 4 different destinations, starting w/a cafe overflowing with churro fans, a very unique bar so old that it doesn't even need signage as it's so well known by locals, a nice luncheon spot serving fried eggplant w/molasses along w/tender pork tenderloin and potatoes, and finally a wine stop at a more modern shop that served a variety of tapas typical of the local area. Everything was delicious, well planned and capitalized on the foods well loved in the region. This company was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. We needed 1 additional slot to open for us to go as a couple, and Pablo helped clear a spot so that we could book online. Directions for meeting spot were also clear and accurate, and our host Elise was an absolute delight. By comparison, I've been on other food tours - also excellent - which had much more quantity of food and stuffed you until you wanted to explode. Personally, I enjoyed this more moderate approach better - you can still enjoy a sampling of local foods and get a nice tour walking around as well. We happened to have ideal weather, along with a great group of companions (thankfully, nobody was a food snob) and Elise was very approachable and considerate of everyone. Highly recommended - go and enjoy all that Malaga has to offer - it's really a beautiful city and ladies, it has great shopping too!
Take the experience at the start of your holiday as you get good insight and recommendations for places to visit. It was wonderful trying the local wines and tapas at four different venues. All very tasty and the wine excellent. A thoroughly enjoyable experience and our guide Emilio was full of enthusiasm and knowledgeable of the area, the best tapas, best roof top bars and things to see and do in Malaga.
Great experience. Loved walking round the city and eating lots of different food. Worth the money. had good local knowledge of area and history
This was an excellent introduction to the tapas and wine of Malaga. Javi was knowledgeable and friendly, thank you.
Javi has an amazing passion for Malaga food and culture. Highly recommended
Emilio was the best guide! He was so enthusiastic and energetic. His love for food was apparent and it made for the best experience! Highly recommend this tour!
We had an amazing tour with Elise! Elise’s insights into Spanish history and the way it shaped not only Malaga but the food we were eating was such an added bonus. The only thing we would change…booking the experience earlier in our trip so that we could utilise the food map! I guess we will just have to come back to Malaga
what a wonderful tour. emilio was a bundle of fun and got the group gelling together early on. the food wine and chat was excellent - a ten out of ten experience
A guide takes you through Malaga central to 4 spots (my experience) and orders local tapas on your behalf. Some of these included deep fried eggplant, olives and anchovy on a stick, cooked pork marinated in local Malaga wine and roasted capsicum in olive oil. The vibe was great and heavily depends on your tour guide and group. I personally enjoyed my experience with the other guests. However, given the price of the guide and what you’re given (in my opinion) doesn’t add up. Seafood is a big part of Malaga culture and many of our dishes were very basic vegetarian dishes. Tour was lovely but all in all, I wouldn’t recommend.
The tour was very good. An interesting selection of foods - very tasty; and Fernando was an excellent guide. Definitely worth doing.
