This was a fun class and the instructor was excellent. Her lesson plan of skill progression made what looks complicated easy to follow. We plan to continue practicing the mizuhiki craft long after our trip.
Well worth price, good atmosphere, super fun for family, teenage girls. Definitely worth the experience. Allow at least two hours, 10 minute walk from the station. Great host, easy to find, good translation. Private experience.
Chieko is a wonderful teacher! I came away with some beautiful earrings that I will be proud to wear and give as a gift. She walked me through some small practices first. We used a translate app for some of our conversations as I only speak English, but her language skills, written materials, and video made everything quite easy to understand. Also, there were plenty of choices for what to make and colors to choose. Chieko is skilled at sharing her craft. Her class was a lot of fun.
My husband and I had a wonderful time making some mizuhiki souvenirs. We both enjoying learning a new art form and the shop owner was a very kind and patient teacher. I made two keychains and my husband chose to make a New Year's decoration. I highly recommend this to everyone interested in getting to know a traditional art, even if you're not an artist in your everyday life, it is an accessible and fun activity.
I booked this because my wife wanted to go. I am not a craft type. So glad I want. The two hours flew by. I made a pair of cuff links and a key chain. The instructions were easy to follow and in usual Japanese style, even the package to take our creations home was superb. The host even showed around her old home , told us some of its history, and bought us out some local sweets as gifts after the other local guests left. Highly recommended experience.
The teacher was amazingly patient with us as we learnt the steps of the procedure. Very quickly we had created practice knots then we moved on to creating two complete items from scratch with a bit more complexity. I chose cuff links and a phone decoration. My wife also made the phone decoration but also a hair clip/tie clip. We could choose our own colours and help was available at every step when needed. I was worried that we had paid the money and finished quickly but when I looked up, two hours had gone! One of the most enjoyable craft activities I have ever done. Highly recommended!
Such a fantastic experience and a cool skill to learn! A great way to spend a few hours and you get some cool jewelry to wear too :)
Wonderful experience, the setting in a historical home, they were wonderful, we had a translator present, our teacher was kind and professional. Couldn’t ask for a better way to understand Japanese craft. It was a highlight of our trip to Japan.
