Great service, one is picked up directly from the train station and accompanied right away. The guide can speak excellent English/Spanish and provides informative information. Overall, the stay was a 10/10.
I want to leave a review because I was so nervous going into this trip. I had flown all the way from NZ and there were no circuit 2 tickets available. I knew buying a circuit 3 ticket with tour would be better than missing out. There is so much misinformation about the circuits online so let me help. Circuit 3 does take you through the lower levels into the ancient city and through the buildings. There are incredible photos of the best parts of Machu Picchu as you come in on the lower terraces. You will get those amazing photos. We were on the 7am tour and watched the sunrise over Machu Picchu and it takes your breath away. Joel was full of knowledge and history and helped me with great photos as I was on my own. The tour lasted approx 2.5 hours and honestly, had I gone home then I would have still remembered it as one of the absolute best days of my life. I want to share a travel tip that will super power your trip there. In addition to the 7am circuit 3 ticket with Peru Trekkers (which was amazing), I also bought a 10am curcuit 1 ticket which let me climb to the very upper terraces (with no tour guide about 40 USD). With these two tickets (circuit 3 and circuit 1) you will have an even more amazing experience than those that take Circuit 2 alone or circuit 3 alone. Another tip is you need to jump onto Whatsapp and add Peru Trekkers with the international +51 number and message them. They will eventually reply and they were great in the 2 days before. Thank you Joel and Peru Trekkers for the ultimate experience I will never forget.
DO NOT BOOK WITH VIATOR OR THIS OPERATOR. This is not a reflection on the guide, Joel was the perfect guide. I booked this for my boyfriend and I 3 months in advance as Machu Picchu is so popular. I contacted the operator asking which train times to book as our tour was supposed to be 8 am and did not want to be late, so we could make the most of our experience. I received no response so went and booked our trains hoping they would fit in ok. I did not receive a response until less than 48 hours before when the operator messaged me saying sorry my messages had been “lost”. The operator then lets us know that they weren’t able to get 8 am tickets like we had booked, our tickets were for 11 am. This meant our trains would not have fitted our schedule. Luckily we were able to exchange our train tickets for the appropriate times, at a fee of 150 USD with Peru Rail. I informed the operator that we were able to get the correct trains and asked if they offer compensation as this was a direct result of their scheduling change. They responded with a simple no and were very pushy, only caring if we were going to do the tour or not. A serious lack of empathy, poor communication and seriously shocking customer service. False advertising if the company can’t honor the time you booked for.
They did not have our tickets at the entrance. We had to find our own guide and pay again at the entrance. Our experience was cut in half and completely ruined because of these guys. DO not book with them
Dear Customer, Good evening. We would like to clarify that this reservation was made under our “last minute” option. As clearly indicated in the product description, travelers are required to arrive at least 1 day in advance in Aguas Calientes in order to purchase the official Machu Picchu tickets in person, due to the current government regulations and limited availability. Unfortunately, these instructions were not followed, and it is simply not realistic to expect guaranteed Machu Picchu tickets from one day to the next without following the required process explained before the booking. We always try our best to assist our travelers under these difficult circumstances, but it is unfair to blame our company for conditions and regulations that were clearly explained in advance. Thank you. Peru Trekkers
Completely lived up to the hype, amazing history and well worth travelling all the way from NZ. Our tour guide Rene made this an unforgettable event, so knowledgeable, kind and hospitable. Highly recommend
We thought what was going to be private for us. But in the end there were four of us. The guide did not try very hard, very brief, We were not very satisfied. Enough, for the price. If I come back, I'll find another tour.
Our guide, Joel Guzman was great. This review is not about him. He showed us around the site perfectly, and was easy to communicate with, and found us right away. Viator or whoever is running this tour group is awful. They changed the timing of our tour from 8am (which we booked) to 11am. The weather at 8am was sunny and beautiful. At 11am it was raining. We also had a train to catch that we booked with the assumption that we were seeing the site at 8am, but had to rebook our train tickets, since they moved our time, the day before we were supposed to hike and cost us a lot of time and money. Additionally, they told us we had to arrive a day early to get our tickets, only a week before we were supposed to visit the site. Again, we already had our train tickets booked, and had to rebook our tickets for the train to accommodate this. When we asked what we had to do to pick up our tickets, they did not respond until the day of. In general communication with this company, was awful. They would change our plans, but when we asked for additional details or explanation, they would not offer anything. By far the worst experience I've had with a tour group. Would definitely not recommend.
Dear Customer, Thank you for your feedback. However, we would like to clarify that your review itself shows uncertainty about which company operated your tour, as you mention “Viator or whoever is running this tour group.” Viator is only the booking platform and not the local operator. At the same time, you confirmed that the guide service and Machu Picchu visit were completed successfully. The entry time adjustment was communicated in advance and was necessary due to official ticket availability and Ministry of Culture regulations affecting all operators during those dates. We understand the inconvenience caused by schedule changes, but we believe it is unfair to describe the entire experience negatively when the tour itself was provided correctly and completed without operational issues. I would recommend this experience. We initially used the chat in Viator to communicate, but it was easier to use their phone number on what’s app. They had Samuel meet us at our hotel in Aguas Calientes the night before to assist us with any questions. The next morning Samuel walked us to the bus station to buy our tickets and put us in the correct bus line. Then they noted our bus number and took our picture for the guide at Machu Picchu to find us. Our guide, Rene, was patient and knowledgeable. He held our place in line while we used the only restroom. He let us take all the photos we wanted and let us set the pace. He had photos to show us along the way. Honestly, Rene made this place come to life for us. Without our guide, we would not have come to understand the lifestyle, culture, and science of the people. The tickers to Machu Picchu were transferred electronically on what’s app. They made communication easy and I felt cared for. I would highly recommend them!
If you weren’t able to secure a Machu Picchu Circuit 2 ticket in advance, this tour company made the process surprisingly convenient and stress-free. They really know how to navigate availability and helped us get the tickets even on short notice, which saved our trip. That said, it’s still best to book directly through the official government website ahead of time to guarantee your preferred circuit and schedule. But if you’re in a pinch and have a nudget, they’re a reliable option to help make it happen.
We made the tour 2A 9h and super worth it, great clean views and no fog. The guide Eduardo one of the best I have ever seen, told the whole story in each passage, we took the most out.
