John was our pilot and...

John was our pilot and was terrific. He showed us significant places and was so kind to our grandson making him feel at ease. We got to land in the Hana rainforest and it was stunning. Would book again but make sure you read the fine print. We didn’t know you had to have at least 4 people to confirm the flight. We only had 3 and had to pay extra bc of this even though there was 6 people on the other helicopter. They could have put 2 on with us but they didn’t offer that.

Spectacular helicopter ride

John was our pilot, super friendly, very knowledgeable about Island statistics. Gave us a little in flight helicopter lesson. The ride itself was incredibly smooth. And I was really amazed how close he got to the waterfalls and the crater we flew into. Gorgeous fuse amazing ride.

Perfection!

I have traveled the road to Hana many times and nothing can compare to this experience! It was a beautiful scenic flight. Perfect weather! Ethan our pilot was extremely knowledgeable throughout the entire trip. The landing in the middle of the tour truly made this so unique. 10/10!

Do not use this company

We showed up 20 minutes ahead of check in and they did not accept our legal AZ drivers license. Told us we had enough time to go back and get our passports. They called on our way back and we confirmed we would be there in 10 minutes. They said ok. Arrived in 10, helicopter sitting right there , 2 minutes before scheduled take off and they would not let us in the helicopter or refund the money. Happy honeymoon to our kids. Worse customer service ever and a waste of $1500 dollars.

Operator response

Mahalo for taking time to offer us feedback on your experience with Maverick Helicopters. We are sorry to hear that your experience was not enjoyable. You indicated that we refused to accept your 4 Arizona drivers licenses. Please be advised that the US Homeland Security Administration has mandated that any person attempting to board any aircraft at a US airport must have in their possession a federally mandated US driver's license or passport. As you are aware, neither of your driver's license met that requirement, and as such we had no choice but to follow federal legislation and deny boarding. Finally, as it states on the confirmation you attached below, the flight leaves at 9am. You are advised to arrive .30 minutes prior to departure. This is due to an FAA safety requirement that must be performed with each guest before departure. Once the pilots have gathered up the guests and began that safety briefing, the departure gate is effectively closed. This usually occurs between .15 min and .10 min before departure. We are saddened that you missed your flight and hope to be able to have the opportunity to provide you with a better experience in the future.

Friendly people, disappointing tour

The people running this tour were incredibly friendly, and our guide was very knowledgeable about Hawaii and eager to share information with the group. As a local, family-owned business, they were kind and welcoming throughout the experience. That said, the tour itself was disappointing for us. The kayaks were equipped with pontoons, which made them much more difficult to maneuver than traditional kayaks. We spent most of the excursion paddling a short distance from shore, listening to information from the guide, and then paddling back. While the guide shared a lot of interesting knowledge, there was very little actual kayaking, exploration, or wildlife viewing. I have kayaked many times and have always enjoyed it, but this experience was not what I expected. While I appreciate the people and the effort they put into the tour, it is not an excursion I would choose to do again.
