Description

Lukomir sits at 1,469 metres above sea level on the edge of the Rakitnica Canyon — the deepest untouched river canyon in the western Balkans and one of the most dramatic hiking destinations in all of Europe. This full-day small-group hike from Sarajevo takes you to Bosnia's highest permanently inhabited village, where stone houses, traditional dress, and shepherds crossing the plateau have remained unchanged for centuries. The route follows the canyon rim across the Bjelašnica plateau — open mountain views, clean air, and a silence that very few travelers ever reach. The hike is moderate difficulty, suitable for anyone in good physical condition with comfortable trail shoes. No technical experience required. Your local guide sets a pace that works for the group throughout the full 8–10 hour day. What's included: Small-group guided hike (max 12 guests) Transport from Sarajevo Home-cooked lunch with a local family in Lukomir village Local expert guide throughout.

Beautiful hike and cultural experience

This was a wonderful hike with beautiful views of mountain meadows with wildflowers, forest and the canyon below. Along the way we met a shepherd from Lukomir watching over her flock. Afterwards I enjoyed a delicious meal in the home of one of the Lukomir families. And talking with the hike guide gave me additional insight into life in Bosnia. Overall it was a great experience and an interesting break from the normal sightseeing.

Absolutely fantastic trip!

We completed the Lukomir Village Hiking Tour today and it was an amazing trip. Almedin, from Tallest Tourguide Tours, accompanied us. The team: Almedin, our hiking guide Hedija, and driver were an absolute pleasure to be around. They were friendly, answered all our questions and provided great information. Our entire family enjoyed the hike, visiting the village and lunch. The tour started with a 2 to 2.5 hour hike to Lukomir. The scenery was spectacular and it was a refreshing break from the city. We then had a wonderful lunch in town, followed by a tour of the traditional village (with cute chickens, sheep, dogs, etc.). The people in the town were very friendly as well. I would definitely recommend this tour specifically and Almedin & Tallest Tour Guide in general to anyone visiting Sarajevo.
