A Splendid Way to See the Lock and Urquhart Castle

We absolutely loved our ons hour boat tour of Loch Ness with the stop at Urquhart Castle. The tour boat included seating both inside and outside which was helpful when it got a wee bit wet and windy. The staff were very polite and knowledgeable. We underestimated how long it would take to drive from Aberdeen to Inverness but the tour guides were extremely accommodating offering to move us to a later tour time. Very generous!

What a waste of money.

Not worth the money. Couldn't hear the audio comments. You're going to Urquhart Castle and back, that's it. Would definitely not recommend.

Lovely Jubbly

We booked the 50-minute "Inspiration" Jacobite Cruise on Loch Ness with views of Urquhart. The instructions were super clear and even though there was a ton of passengers there was still plenty of room and we got a whole indoor table/benches to ourselves. The staff was kind, knowledgeable, and efficient. The "guide" was pre-recorded and shared over the intercom. For us, they offered just the right amount of information. A whole bus of 40 seniors arrived past departure time and I was very surprised that they were nice enough to wait for them. The views were gorgeous, indoor and outdoor seating available, and just the right amount of time to enjoy the loch & views of the castle. We had booked a tour of the Urquhart Castle directly following the cruise and it was the perfect morning!

As expected

Great tour beer so you get sailed a little on Loch Ness. You can sit inside or outside, and there is a bar on board. Nice staff and good guide.

Pathetic service! Absolutely avoid!

Horrible service. My bus from Inverness city center to the meeting point was exactly 2 minutes late. The pick up was supposed to be at 4:15 PM and I reached the pick up area at exactly 4:17 PM thanks to the delayed bus. I had called the helpline number at least 5-7 times appraising them of the bus delay and that I'd be there in less 5 minutes from the scheduled time. They, however, DID NOT help in any manner and did not even ask the ferry to wait for just 2 minutes. They refused to offer a refund on the ticket to top it off! Definitely avoid their service!!

Operator response

Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear that you missed your departure time and we understand how frustrating that must have been, especially considering the delays were beyond your control. As our sailings operate to a strict schedule, we are unable to delay their departures, even by just a few minute. This is because it can have an impact on our other passengers and the day's operations. We advise all of our customers to arrive at least 30 minutes before their departure time. Whilst our team did their best to advise you, we're sorry that it did not result in the outcome you had hoped for. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with our customer service team and will share your feedback internally for review. We wish you all the best for your future travels. Kind regards, Team Jacobite

Great tour

Well worth it . Amusing commentary at times . Lots of info. Only downside is return is repetitive, but not much anyone can do about that. Option of exploring Urquhart castle looked interesting. Didn’t do because wasn’t aware of the option.

Operator response

Hi there, Thank you so much for your lovely review! We're so glad you enjoyed your cruise and the commentary overall, and understand there's only so much we can do when travelling back along the same route. We're sorry to hear that you weren't aware of the option to visit Urquhart Castle. We'll take your feedback on board as we continue looking at ways to make this information clearer for our guests. Thanks so much for your feedback again, and we hope to welcome you back onboard again soon! Kind regards, Team Jacobite

The parking is...

THE PARKING IS TERRIBLE!!!!! Leave extra time, our boat left without us as the parking lot was full and the overflow is a LONG ways away and quite the hike up and down a few inclines. The boat part was fine but plan ahead and do not assume you can just pull up and pack. And if you have mobility issues you cannot use the overflow lot.

A bit of a tourist trap...

Of course we did it, right? Coming to Loch Ness and not doing a boat trip... so this is a tourist trap for sure and we all willingly participate... Now to put that to the side and give the deserved respect to the actual area.... it is beautiful! Don't come here for the Nessie "hype" - which of course puts it on the radar for everybody and there is some sentiment to it to be honest - but come here for a relaxing and scenic boat ride - something I recommended if you drive around Scotland and want something different for a change - we did it as a family of four with my parents and we mutually decided this wasn't a must but a nice "lunch break" type of excursion As to the tour operator - really nice company, well organized, the docks were located in front of the hotel - pretty unique under the street passage way, pretty cool actually to arrive at the water front and their docks. Boat is really nice and clean, plenty of great seats, cafe/bar, clean big restrooms - can't fault it The views of the castle of course are great, but seeing it on foot from the grounds is definitely the proper way to experience it - so make sure to do that as well The meeting location is a hotel where there is a cafe/restaurant/rest rooms/gift shop etc. so plenty to utilize before or after the tour if you are driving straight to here from somewhere far away

Operator response

Hi there, Thank you for your detailed review! We're delighted you and your family enjoyed the cruise and found our team, facilities, and location welcoming and well organized. We couldn't agree more that Loch Ness is about so much more than Nessie, and we're glad you appreciated the beauty of the area and the views of Urquhart Castle. We hope to welcome you back on board again in the future! Kind regards, Team Jacobite
