A fantastic half-day tour in the dunes near Swakopmund. Arnold, our guide, discovered everything possible: geckos buried in the sand, horned puff adders, chameleons, jackals.... How he discovered it is a mystery to me. But it was a very impressive tour. I learned a lot. Highly recommended. And truly worth the price.
We were a photography group and Jurgen and Frekkie gave us a great tour with amazing sightings,
Arnold was a fantastic guide and the tour was a great experience. Your passion and knowledge were incredible and everyone visiting Namibia should take this tour with you. The handmade cookies were also the best! This is definitely a must-do in Swakopmund
We had a tour with Jürgen and Frekkie, and it was just amazing! The four-hour tour included information about very interesting animals and nature in general. Jürgen explained everything vividly and humorously. The desert seems dead, but is alive with interesting creatures like chameleons, snakes, geckos and beetles. One of the best experiences we had in Namibia. highly recommended!
What an incredible experience! The guides were friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about the desert around the town. This made the tour educational and thoroughly enjoyable. We saw so many desert creatures 🤩 it was delightful 😊
From the beginning of the planning process to the final taxi arrangement, Batis Birding Safaris was attentive, thorough, flexible, and communicative. Our customized itinerary packed in more than one could reasonably expect to see in 12 days. None of it was outside the expert authority of our guide, Tim. Acting as tour guide, driver, and spotter, Tim spoke fluently on the history, culture, and natural history of the land, paying attention to everyone’s individual interests and catering to the divergent requests of our eclectic group. Full of endless energy, he often stayed up past hours to provide tutorials on Astro photography or go night herping. No rare bird went unmissed, no photo op was denied, and he aggressively positioned our vehicle to get the best views of wildlife while maintaining and enforcing strict guide ethics. Throughout the trip, Tim couldn’t have gotten more than 5 hours of sleep on any night and yet, he never complained but remained constantly professional while also integrating into our group like one of the gang. If there was something he didn’t know, instead of coming up with a false answer (as you are taught to do in tour guide school), the tireless Tim would research it that night and provide an explanation in the morning. Collectively, we agreed we’d never had better treatment on a safari. We are already talking about coming back. Eleven out of ten stars!
Arnold the guide was very well informed, entertaining and excellent on herpetology...................
Fun, interesting desert tour. Incredible guide, Shantelle, can track and fine desert reptiles. Very knowledgeable and fun. Shovel nosed lizard, Namibian Sidewinder, Trak Trak Chat, Namibian Chameleon, Palmato Geiko.
Chantel, our tour guide was very knowledgeable and did her best to find and demonstrate the desert lining creatures. She was exceedingly entertaining and helpful wherever possible. This excursion is highly recommended.
We had the absolute best time on this tour! Arnold was an amazing guide and clearly so passionate about what he does! His desert orientation was awesome, and so well-explained using the sand to draw a map of Namibia and explain the fundamentals of the area. We ended up seeing the Namaqua chameleon, a baby Peringuey's Adder, Web-footed gecko, and the Shovel-nosed lizard. If you're into little critters and learning more about the Namib desert, this is the tour for you!
