Our guide Clara was very knowledgeable and keen to answer questions. Her enthusiasm for the history of the black (involuntary) migration to Brazil was great. We just wish we had more time to ask more questions because her answers were so thoughtful.
A beautiful historical discovery of Rio thanks to Monica's visit. Another way to discover Brazil beyond carnival.
Monica was a very thorough and thoughtful guide for leading us through the sad experience and history of enslavement. We visited the remnants of the pier where thousands of persons kidnapped from Africa were unloaded, a UNESCO heritage site. We saw a small historical museum on the Afro-Brazilian cemetery, an Afro-Brazilian cultural center, and the historic and poor neighborhood of Little Africa now facing gentrification. Monica was very thoughtful, and able to adjust the pace for senior visitors. She even added a few additional stops. We would definitely recommend her and this tour or other tours. It was really informative to get off the track of typical tourist sites. recommended.

We thank you for your recommendation and look forward to welcoming you on another tour soon! On behalf of the Rio Carioca Tour team, warm greetings!
Monica is an experienced and knowledgeable guide. She made this tour focusing on the tragic history of enslavement in Brazil. This included the UNESCO heritage site of the pier where thousands of human beings were unloade6. it had been covered over and forgotten until 2011. The small African heritage museum and Afro- Brazilian cultural center were also interesting. The historic neighborhood of Little Africs was another stop. We could see this old low income area faces gentrification. Monica was very responsive to two older travelers and adjusted the pace. She even added brief stops at additional sites. A great opportunity to get off the beaten path and learn about multi cultural, multi-racial Brazil. Definitely worth the cost.

We toured with Antonio yesterday and was very disappointed. Our tour was confirmed with pickup from hotel but was later told that hotel pickup was unavailable and my group of 3 had to meet guide at another hotel. When we met Antonio we were disappointed to learn that his English was not great so it was hard understanding him. We departed the pickup spot in a small vehicle so we were cramped. We walked around took photos but had to take a taxi twice that we had to pay additional for. After the tour Antonio told us to meet him at a spot on coco cabana beach to see a Samba dancer. When we arrived there was no samba dancers and we got stuck paying for his meal and drinks. I wouldn’t recommend Antonio as a guide for English speaking travelers. Larger vehicle for transport is needed if you have 3 people in group (4 including guide). 3 adults sitting in back seats will be cramped.
Hello, At no time was it confirmed that we would pick you up at your hotel, since all the sites on the platform state that they do not search for the Barra da Tijuca side. We indicate a meeting point as usual for all reservations that are outside the search area. The tour that you bought is called Walking tour of Little Africa, so it is assumed a walk, the guide told us that the lady got tired of walking and did not have much disposition, so she herself suggested taking taxis for displacement and of course this was not included in the price. Guide Antonio was kind enough to invite you to a concert by Caetano Veloso, a great and internationally known Brazilian musician, which would take place on Copacabana beach. This, once again, was an extra kindness, since he had no obligation to invite you for a program that was extra to the tour. When you arrived, your card was refused and Antonio was willing to pay for it out of his own pocket, and you could later reimburse him. We do not understand when you say that you paid for his food and drinks. The lady that got tired in the morning tour, got tired again in the show and chose to leave. About Mr. Antonio's English, we had not received any complaints about this, and according to him, it was a little surprising, since you did not comment on anything and seemed to understand everything. But when it comes to this, we will reinforce with him to intensify his studies so that he can be comprehensible to English speakers from all places, big cities and countryside. About the car, we will take your comment into account to make a bigger car available and more space for those who need it. Have a nice day
Great tour!! My tour guy was professional and knowledgeable!! He went out of his way to take me to the best restaurant spot in Little Africa. I am glad I did this tour❤️ Highly recommended!!

We completed a 4 hour walking tour of Little Africa in Rio with our wonderful guide Monica. We enjoyed every aspect of the walking tour. We saw many sights related to Rio's dark history of colonisation and at every stop Monica gave us detailed, interesting and shocking facts and information. We were enthralled throughout. Monica is very friendly and her enthusiasm, personality and passion for history shone through the whole tour. You will not regret booking this tour. Thank you Monica, it was one of the highlights of our Rio stay.
