Leathercraft Workshop in the Rastro of Madrid

Description
This workshop offers the participants the opportunity of making their own personalized leather object using only their hands and a little imaginacion. The participants can choose between a wallet, a travelling purse, a handbag, a glasses case, ..or maybe they wish to design something different . The process is not difficult and the teacher will help all the time. The satisfaction of creating a useful, long lasting and attractive piece of handcraft is incomparable! Another highlight of this experience is the fact that the workshop is situated in the centre of Madrid which is the oldest part of the city, in a neighbourhood called La Latina which is near the Cebada Square. It is an area where the biggest Street Market takes place every Sunday called El Rastro. El Rastro is full of Antique and Handcraft shops and stalls, together with a great amount of restaurants, bars and coffee shops. One of the main streets is Ribera de Curtidores or Tannery road where there are many Leather shops.

Michael is very kind and explains the entire production process very clearly. He guided us step by step on how to make our piece, in addition to sharing his knowledge as a leatherworker. We felt like leather artisans for a few hours. 😊
Miguel is the best! He walked us through whatever project we chose step by step. We learned about the old way of hand made leather goods including the tools and how to use them. My friend and I made large leather wallets. I’m very pleased with my final product!
Super nice and knowledgable artisan. He told us he produced pieces for theatre, collectionists, GoT when they filmed in Spain and even Ferran Adriá. Welcomes you with open arms and helps you craft a piece on your own. Very recommended!
We arrived early and walked up the hill to a small plaza with benches. The weather was lovely and we felt comfortable resting and looking around at the homes and businesses. Michael met us at the door and we took the very small lift to the 5th floor. His workshop held all sorts of leather projects, tools, drawings and a panoramic view of the city below. He gave a choice of several projects. Then he shared information about the various sources for leather (not for the squimish) and how the hides are prepared for leather work. We were able to pick our preferred project, the color and type of leather we wanted to work with and then Michael walked us through step by step, cutting the shapes, gluing and sewing the piecework and adding snaps for closures. Everyone who participated took home a finished product and it was something substantial that took effort and time and that we could be proud of. Thank you Michael for your time and patience with us. Definitely recommend.
My family attended the leather workshop. Michael did a great job teaching and guiding us through the process. All four of us had a great time. I would highly recommend taking this workshop.
This was a great experience. Mike was awesome and hospitable. The only bad thing is we walked up five floors to get to the workshop.
Michael is super skilled yet patient at teaching and helping you with your project. While Spanish, his English is native level. I enjoyed the class so much and the glasses case I made that I scheduled another class the next day so I could hone my skills and make another one.
My wife and two daughters, 11 and 15, did the workshop. They loved it , found it went very fast despite 3 hours, the productions are beautiful and the teacher very cool. Brief to do without hesitation. And if you're not in the nice neighborhood, allows you to see another side of Madrid
The address to find the place was little confusing but when we figured that out the craftsman Mikeal was very skilled and informative.
We enjoyed each making a project. Michael walked us through the project and they turned out great. I would recommend this activity.
