The Ethiopian coffee ceremony is a cherished cultural tradition and a symbol of hospitality, community, and respect. This elaborate ritual involves the preparation, brewing, and serving of coffee, often accompanied by conversation and connection among family and friends. The ceremony begins with fresh green coffee beans being carefully washed and roasted over an open flame until they release a rich, aromatic scent. The roasted beans are then ground by hand using a mortar and pestle before being brewed in a traditional jebena, a clay coffee pot. The coffee is served in small cups, typically in three rounds known as abol, tona, and bereka, symbolizing friendship, blessings, and goodwill. The ceremony is often accompanied by the burning of incense, adding to the sensory experience. It is a quintessential part of Ethiopian culture, offering a moment of warmth and togetherness that transcends the act of drinking coffee.

Perfect way to spend a layover in Addis Ababa

Excellent layover tour with Joe. Couldn’t have been any better. He was a very enthusiastic and excellent tour guide. He clearly has a lot of pride in his country. A great way to spend four hours in Addis Ababa. Definitely ask for Joe if you have a layover tour. Very nice guide. The best!

We had an excellent time, had 5-6 hours in layover time and were picked up from airport, had a great city tour, got to see top of the mountain, national museum and lucy, had a tour through the mercato and a lovely restaurant with coffee and honey wine. Guides talked us through history and culture and was awesome to learn from. Highly recommended.

Must Do. Best Value with Awesome Experience

Mike and his company is amazing. Excellent in communications, extremely flexible, very knowledgeable with history, geography, politics, world events and culture. He picked us on time, adjusted itinerary to suit our schedule, gave us a surprise traditional lunch gift, very patient with our questions, queries and shopping desires. Provided valuable first hand insight into culture, habits and society. Good car, decent ac, wifi hotspot and safe driver.

Great opportunity to get...

Great opportunity to get a good taste of Ethiopia. Really enjoyed Coffee in the Mountains as well as Lunch in the City! I was traveling on a Sunday so I also had the opportunity to witness a live church ceremony!

An amazing tour with an amazing tour guide!

Booked this tour almost last minute but was so happy they were able to accommodate me. Joe, my amazing tour guide, picked me up on time and was able to bring me around Addis Ababa safely! Covered majority of the major spots to see in Addis with the highlights of seeing Lucy, the views from Entoto and the amazing cup of Ethiopian coffee! Thank you Joe for making my short stay in Addis a memorable one!

Good tour

The communication from the tour company wasn’t the best (there was confusion on who would pick us up and where), but once Joe picked us up from the airport we had a very good tour. Joe was knowledgeable and personable. He took us to the sites we wanted to see and suggested a few others. I wanted to buy a watch from the Mercato and he helped me not have to pay the “tourist price”. We enjoyed the day.

Highly recommend and would book again. Best affordable option

So i wanted to do something kind of short and sweet whilst covering most bases. This suited perfectly. I was contacted the night before and picked up on time in the morning. Guide Joe was fabulous, informative, excellent English and just couldn't do enough showing us Addis. There was also the opportunity to amend the itinerary, so book and get in touch with what you fancy doing, especially if in a group/private touring
