In Ngong Ping village (surrounded by lush mountains), you will see scenic and interesting attractions everywhere. Known as the "Buddhist Kingdom in the South", Po Lin Monastery is the most popular Buddhist temple in HK. Following a visit inside the Po Lin Monastery, your vegetarian lunch is arranged also in this historical and spiritual building.

A must-go attraction in the village is the extraordinary Big Buddha statue (erected in 1993 and 34 metres high). After lunch in Po Lin Monastery, a coach will be provided reaching up to the top skipping to climb 268 steps for a closer look at the Big Buddha.

Lantau Island trip

Lantau Island is a great escape from the city. Tai O Village and Po Lin Monastery were awesome. The only drawback to this trip was the excessive lines waiting for the cable cars.

Operator response

Thank you for your feedback! We’re glad to hear you enjoyed Lantau Island, especially Tai O Village and Po Lin Monastery. We’re sorry about the long waiting times for the cable cars—this can vary depending on peak hours and visitor volume. We appreciate your comments and hope to welcome you again for another great experience!

Lantau Cable Skip the Line.

First thing, if you’re going to take the Cable Car to the Big Buddha it pays to buy a tour just for the skip the line part. The tour companies provide special tickets, either one way or return. Along with those tickets comes a special line that gets you to the front of the very very long regular ticket line. We bought the Crystal Cabin with the glass floor. It’s a little freaky at first but within a few minutes I got used to it. We didn’t have a private cabin and had to share with 2 moms and 4 very loud kids! 25 minutes and no escape. The ride to the top and Big Buddha would’ve been more amazing if the mountain and Lantau Island hadn’t been covered with smog. The Village is basically gift shops and fast food like Subway (the American Company) and some Chinese fast food. The walk from the Cable Car to the Big Buddha is loooooong. Keep hydrated and stay cool. It’s hot up there. We also went to Tai-O village by boat to see the fishing houses on stilts which was worth the visit. Everywhere you go is a long walk. Don’t forget that you need to take a bus from the top of the mountain to Tai-O.
