Lalibela Churches visit 2 night and 3 Days

I just finished a tour of Lalibela with Ayalew and highly recommend him to anyone visiting the region. As a local guide, he has a deep knowledge of the area’s history, culture, and churches. He answered every question thoughtfully and with great care, making the experience both informative and engaging. Had a super 2 day tours with Ayelew in Lalibela. First day we visited most of the churches, while second day we had the opportunity to assist to the mass. Incredible! I had a very good experience traveling to Lalibela with Ayalew last weekend. Everything went really smoothly, and he is very nice and good at explaining. I would recommend him for tours around Ethiopia, especially in Amhara region.

I have been coming to Ethiopia for the last 15 years and it was always a dream of mine to come to Lalibela and now that dream finally came true. You will not find a better guide and what will become is a true friend. I learned so much and enjoyed our tour so much I can’t wait to bring friends back so they can understand why Lalibela is such an important place. It is safe regardless of what the US Government says. The community of Lalibela have done everything they can to make sure visitors feel safe and welcomed. It is such a huge part of the local economy and by you visiting there creates and saves jobs so people can provide for their families.

Ayalew put together a wonderful itinerary for our three days in Lalibela. He was also very accommodating when the rain changed our plans. He and the driver picked us up from the airport on time in a very nice van with bottled water ready. They took us to Sora Lodge and got us all checked in before we went to the first group of churches. The next day after breakfast we headed to the monastery and lunch. We visited a few more churches before heading back to the lodge. My husband and I ended up walking to a nearby hotel for dinner. Ayalew checked in with us to make sure we were okay and ended up picking us up in the van because it was very dark when we left and the power kept going out in the village. He said it was safe but we were grateful they came and picked us up. The morning we were headed back to Addis we ended up visiting St George cathedral. It had rained the day before so we weren’t able to go. It was so nice he was able to accommodate us and take us before we flew out later that day. Ayalew’s knowledge and background information was extensive and made the history of Lalibela come to life. We were so pleased with all the stories and history he shared with us. We would highly recommend Ayalew and his driver Tedese. They were great guides and companions during our trip. Lalibela is a place worth visiting if you are interested in church history or architecture. Lalibela is a unique and amazing place.
