Out of our 10 day stay in New Zealand, this tour was the highlight of our trip. We booked a one day private tour to Mt. Cook and Lake Tekapo, and it exceeded our expectations. We have been on many guided day tours over the years, but this one truly stood out. We initially chose this company because they offered tours in multiple languages and flexible start times. Although the tour was described as "private," we didn't expect it to be just our group, which was a wonderful surprise. We also appreciated that the itinerary was customizable. Our guide, Jay, was knowledgeable, experienced, and attentive. He offered great suggestions, always checked our preferences, and never rushed us. Even during the long drive, he kept the conversation enjoyable and made the day fun from start to finish. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute and would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting New Zealand.
Extremely happy to have Jay with our small group tour. He is very joyful and passionate about New Zealand and showed us as many spots as possible throughout the trip. The trip was enjoyable and we learnt about all the stories and histories of the lakes and mountains. We made it on time back to Queenstown and even made extra stops! No extra admission fees are required and everything was excellent. The whole 12 hour trip was surely unforgettable and worth it.
Thank you so much for your lovely review! I’m really glad to hear you had such an enjoyable day exploring the lakes and learning about the stories and history behind them. It was a pleasure showing you around and making the most of the time with extra stops along the way. I’m happy everything ran smoothly and that the experience felt worthwhile and memorable—that’s exactly what we aim for. Thank you again for your kind words, and I hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable journey in the future!
We had a great time in this private tour with Jay. We covered Lindis pass, Clay cliffs, Cromwell, Tekapo lake (multiple viewpoints) and Pukaki lake (multiple viewpoints). Jay shared a lot of great info and also took some very nice pictures. He also took to some scenic hidden gems for the lakes with no people around which was very cool. If you are 2-3 people this private tour is only slightly more expensive/comparable to a group tour but it is a much better experience as you can spend good time at the the lakes and other places of interest.
Thank you for the kind words! I’m really glad you enjoyed the trip and that we could explore so many beautiful spots together — Lindis Pass, Clay Cliffs, and those quiet viewpoints around Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki are always special. I’m also happy you liked the photos and the hidden gems along the way! You also made a great point about private tours. For 2–3 people the price is often similar to group tours, and for 3–4 people it can actually work out cheaper per person, while still giving you the flexibility to spend more time at the places you enjoy most. It was a pleasure hosting you, and I hope to see you again in New Zealand! 😊

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! I’m really glad you enjoyed the journey to and beyond. Covering the full alpine route — from to the dramatic , through , and along both and Tekapo with multiple viewpoints — makes for a very special day, and I’m happy you made the most of it. Finding those quiet, hidden lake spots without the crowds is always one of my favourite parts of the trip, so I’m glad you appreciated that side of the experience. And of course, it was my pleasure to help capture some great photos along the way! Thank you as well for highlighting the value of a private tour. For small groups, having the flexibility to stay longer at the lakes and move at your own pace really does make a big difference. I truly appreciate you choosing TravelnGo and hope to see you again for another South Island adventure.
Our journey with Jay from Arrowtown to Lake Tekapo covered some of New Zealand's most scenic alpine routes, winding through landscapes dotted with vibrant lupins and native and invasive flora, with Jay providing informative and engaging commentary throughout. We stopped at a fruit farm for delicious kiwiberries and then at a salmon farm for incredibly fresh salmon, followed by an amazing visit to Lake Pukaki where we enjoyed melt-in-your-mouth salmon sashimi and were mesmerized by the distinctive milky-turquoise waters caused by glacial flour. Throughout the day, we were thrilled to spot karearea on multiple occasions, with Jay looking out for them. At Kea Point, we completed the rewarding walking track through alpine meadows and were treated to spectacular views of Aoraki/Mount Cook and the Hooker Valley from the lookout point. After visiting the picturesque Church of the Good Shepherd, and multiple viewpoints of Lake Tekapo, we finished this wonderful day with delicious pizza.
Thank you so much for such a beautifully detailed review 🥰 It truly sounds like you made the most of every moment — from the alpine drive out of Arrowtown to the lupins in bloom and those incredible glacier-fed colours at Lake Pukaki. The salmon sashimi stop is always a favourite, but pairing it with views of Aoraki / Mount Cook makes it even more special. I’m especially happy you spotted karearea along the way — that’s never guaranteed and always a privilege to witness in the wild. And finishing the day at Lake Tekapo by the Church of the Good Shepherd (with pizza to celebrate!) sounds like the perfect ending. It was genuinely a pleasure spending the day exploring with you. Hope to see you back for another adventure soon 😊
The day before this trip we took another trip for your company and we were very pleased with the service of the tour guide Jay, so we asked if we could add a day trip. Although the season has passed, Jay is still trying to help us find flowers (very careful). As the shark shipment was delayed due to an accident before we went to Lake Pukaki, Jay quickly adjusted the itinerary and told us we could enjoy it again on the way back. There is no stress all the way, and there will be a lot of restaurant options available for us to choose from the day before (our family is a guest, the main purpose of this trip is to eat good food). The main issue on this route is the toilet, but Jay will also remind us of the path and level of cleanliness of each toilet, very attentive to the girl. In addition, Jay is a good photographer, he will also take us to some private shooting attractions to avoid shooting crowds; he will also give us some tips for shooting red-style photos. Even at the end of the trip, he is willing to take us to the restaurant location we have booked, and is willing to provide some tourist information about Queen Town to provide some ideas for our future freelancers.
Thank you so much for choosing us again and for sharing such a thoughtful and heartwarming review! We’re glad you enjoyed the photos and hidden locations as well. Thank you for your trust and support, and we look forward to exploring more of New Zealand with you next time! It was my pleasure!
We had an amazing experience with Jay as our private tour guide! He was incredibly sweet, friendly, and accommodating, and genuinely happy to tailor the day around all of our suggestions. The entire trip felt relaxed and personal, never rushed, and he made sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves throughout the whole day. Jay went above and beyond by helping us switch out hotels in the morning, which made everything so much easier and stress-free. He constantly checked in to make sure we were okay and having a great time, which we really appreciated. Anyone looking for the flexibility to make stops along the way and truly curate their own day trip should absolutely reach out to Jay and his team. He had great suggestions throughout the tour and also recommended additional spots for us to check out for the remainder of our time in Queenstown, which was incredibly helpful. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking, and the flexibility of the private tour made it even more special. We truly enjoyed every moment of the experience and will definitely be passing Jay’s recommendation along to all of our friends and family. Highly recommend!
Thank you so much for this wonderful and detailed review. I truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. I’m really glad to hear that the day felt relaxed, personal, and fully tailored to what you wanted—that flexibility and comfort are exactly what our private tours are designed to offer. I’m also happy I could help with the hotel switch in the morning and make the start of your day a little easier and stress-free. Lake Tekapo and the journey there are incredibly special, and it’s great to know you enjoyed not only the scenery but also the freedom to stop, explore, and shape the day at your own pace. I’m especially pleased that the extra suggestions for the rest of your Queenstown stay were helpful as well. Thank you again for choosing TravelnGo and for your generous recommendation. It was a pleasure hosting you, and I hope to welcome you—or your friends and family—back to New Zealand in the future.
Jay was an excellent guide. Did not bombard me with information, but was able to answer my questions and when he noticed things that I was interested in, would give me more information of that type. Because I booked a private tour, he asked if there were specific things that I wanted to do. I arranged for him to bring my bike and camping gear and drop me off at Lake Tekapo. He even helped me set up my tent. Highly recommend.
Thank you for sharing your experience! 😊 We’re glad Jay could tailor the tour to your interests and support your unique plans, from transporting your gear to helping set up at Lake Tekapo. It’s great to hear the private tour worked perfectly for you. We truly appreciate the recommendation!
