Itinerary
The cliffs of the Ponta da Piedade headland is one of the finest natural features of the Algarve. This dramatic limestone coastline is formed of sea pillars, fragile rock arches and hidden grottos, all of which have been chiselled-out by savage winter storms.
Being the most south-westerly point in mainland Europe, this rugged and forbidding Cape has long been considered sacred ground – ancient Greeks called it the ‘Land of Serpents’, but the pugnacious Romans oddly preferred a meeker designation: Promontorium Sacrum (‘Holy Promontory’), the Latin origin of the name ‘Sagres’ (from Sacrum). For them, terra firma-loving citizens of Rome, Cape St. Vincent was the ‘Edge of the World’, a supernatural vortex where the setting sun was dramatically submerged by the immense, unknown ocean (still today, the fading solar disk occasionally seems bigger and brighter at Cape St. Vincent). The myth persisted throughout the Middle Ages until a man decided to end all that crazy nonsense and – in the process – put an end to the Age of Darkness: Prince Henry the Navigator
In terms of global importance, Sagres' heyday was in the 15th century and this was down to Prince Henry the Navigator. He chose Sagres as his home and location of his school of navigation. The school boasts alumni such as Fernao de Magalhaes (Magellan), Pedro Alvares Cabral and Vasco da Gama whose impact on the World is still felt today. It was from nearby Belixe that the first caravels were launched, the same ships that brought about Portugal's age of The Discoveries and helped define the nation's identity.
Lagos is a historic and characterful city that is situated on the beautiful Western Algarve. It is a city that boasts a rich seafaring heritage and a coastline of dramatic natural scenery, and today is one of the Algarve’s finest holiday destinations. We will park outside the walled town, then our guide will lead you on a walking tour to the center of town, giving you tips for restaurants as well as places to visit. The town is small, so you can easily cover the most interesting places on foot. The guide will then set a meeting point to collect everyone later for return. Then from there the customers will have more than 2 hours to enjoy Lagos on their own.

Gabriel Mila was an amazing host on my private solo trip. The day was perfectly planned and truly unforgettable. We visited the most beautiful scenic viewpoints in Sagres and stopped at a lovely café for liquorice coffee and cake, which was such a nice touch. We then continued on to Lagos for even more stunning views before enjoying lunch at a traditional Portuguese restaurant with incredible food and wonderful hospitality. After that, we took a lovely walk through the old town, soaking up the atmosphere. Even though it was raining, the tour still went ahead, and honestly, it made the experience feel even more special and memorable. Gabriel was friendly, easy to talk to, and very knowledgeable. I really enjoyed our conversations and learning about Portuguese heritage and culture throughout the day. Thank you, Gabriel, for such an amazing experience—I couldn’t have asked for a better host!
Wow, what a lovely review! I had such a great time on the tour too—it honestly felt like guiding a friend around. Looking forward to the next one 😉
Gabriel showed us so many beautiful places! Truly customizing the trip to our desires. We highly recommend this tour as you will see so many off the beaten path places that are not over run with tourists. Gabriel is the best!
Thank you for the kind words, Holly. Whats a great time we had!
We had an absolutely wonderful experience with our tour guide, Gabriel, on our trip to Silves and Lagos. From the start, Gabriel went above and beyond to ensure we had the best possible experience. Due to some unexpected heavy fog, he thoughtfully rearranged our itinerary so we could still enjoy stunning views and scenic spots without the weather getting in the way. Gabriel was incredibly knowledgeable and shared so much interesting history and context about every site we visited. He was also engaging and personable—he kept the entire group, including our kids, fully engaged the whole time, which is no small feat! He recommended a fantastic local restaurant where we had one of the best meals of our trip, and to top it all off, he captured beautiful photos of us throughout the day that we’ll treasure forever. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide. If you’re visiting the Algarve region in Portugal we highly recommend touring with Gabriel—you’ll be in great hands!
Thank you so much for such a heartfelt kind review. I will never forget you. That´s for sure.
We took two tours back to back in early May with Gabriel Lima ( GL Tours); the east Algarve to Tavira/Faro and the next day the west Algarve to Lagos/Sagres/Cap St Vincenzo. Gabriel is well travelled, knowledgeable and is very enthusiastic in sharing the history and beauty of the Algarve, in fact he is quite a character !! We had many laughs with him sharing two lunches at local restaurants. We highly recommend, you will not be disappointed.
Thank you so much for the kind review. We had indeed much fun :)
Gabriel Lima goes above and beyond as a very knowledgeable guide. All of my friends enjoyed his insights into the Algarve, humor, and flexibility with our needs and requests. The Algarve has stunning scenery, and he knows where to take the best photos. Sagres is wild, rugged, and beautiful, especially on a windy day. Lagos has a charming old town and is equally lovely. Our next journey with Gabriel is eagerly anticipated.
Thank you so much for your kind words. See again soon.
Whilst our guide was very accommodating and really nice person - I didn’t feel the sights or the day lived up to expectations. Further as with our experience of tours in Portugal the guide takes you to a lunch spot whereby he has connections - always expensive and you feel obliged to pay for their lunch
Hi Jason, Thank you for your review. I’m quite surprised, but I also understand that some people can be hard to please. The spots are amazing, very popular, and highly rated, so perhaps you expected something different from reality. I can assure you that the places were there before I led the tour. Regarding your comments about lunch connections being expensive, that simply isn’t accurate. Firstly, lunch isn’t included, so the discussion about an obligation to pay is unnecessary, as it’s obvious you have to pay for what you eat everywhere in the world. Maybe you’ve had some bad experiences with other guides. I work to high standards and don’t deceive people, so I would appreciate it if you didn’t generalize about Portuguese guides. Secondly, I only suggest great local restaurants that aren’t overpriced; the food is fresh, and that’s all. Guests are free to choose from many other options. Finally, for those who read my words, I want to clarify that I have no hidden business dealings with restaurants or anything like that. Anyway, I wish you all the best, Jason!
This was an amazing tour with some of the most beautiful sites you can imagine! Pictures cannot do this experience justice. It’s simply something you need to see in person. On top of that, Gabriel was the best tour guide. He’s extremely knowledgeable about the Algarve region as he has lived in the area almost his whole life. He’s very friendly and made adjustments on the fly based on what we wanted to see and made sure we saw them with as little crowds as possible. This is not a small feet, especially during the summer months. I could rave about this, but I’d rather just advise you to book the tour and book it with Gabriel. You won’t be disappointed!
Wow! Thank you so much for the kind review! You're 5* too :) See you again soon.
Gabriel chose spectacular vista spots. The lunch spot he recommended was amazing and authentic. Very friendly knowledgeable tour guide.
Thank you so much for your kind review Denise. Hope to see you again soon :)
Gabriel picked up the four of us on time from our hotel. He is flexible with routes, choosing the best time to visit each sites, and managing time wisely. During our trip to Sagres and Lagos, Gabriel carefully introduced the scenery along the way. We saw amazing coastal cliffs, spectacular grottoes and arches. The natural landscapes are really unforgettable. For lunch, Gabriel recommended a great restaurant in Lagos, and we enjoyed all the dishes and desserts wholeheartedly! That evening, Gabriel sent us pictures he took of us and also more restaurants recommendations! Thank you Gabriel!
Thank you so much for your kind review. See you again soon.
We enjoyed visiting the many towns and walking around the centers. Gabriel adjust the trip in accordance with our requests.
Thank you much for the kind review :)
