Freddy was an awesome tour guide. Water is pretty cold, the hike is not bad but definitely not for someone who doesn’t exercise.
The whole experience was great! Hernan our driver was amazing! He shared a lot of his knowledge of Costa Rica on the drive and was very friendly. Nacho, the guide was also amazing. Very friendly and super helpful on the more difficult parts of the trail. Not a very difficult hike but technical in some areas. All worth it for the payoff at the end!
This was such a fun experience for the whole family. Our driver was so great and we enjoyed the drop off point for lunch. Thecar was also super nice and our driver navigated the traffic so professionally. Also, we had nacho as our guide which we absolutely loved. Though the hike was tough at times he was there cheering us on and supporting us. Overall, I could not have asked for a better day.
Absolutely amazing! Our tour guide Nacho was very knowledgeable and patient when helping when needed. The waterfall was beautiful and the hike was very doable for able-bodied people of all ages. This was a 10/10 and highly recommend for anyone wanting an active swimming/hiking experience :)
Anthony was amazing!! On the way to the waterfall we stopped safely on the side of the road to see monkeys and on the way back to Tamarindo he took us to a beautiful restaurant in Liberia. Anthony told us facts and stories about Costa Rica as well, he loves he country!
The waterfall itself was beautiful but we did not have Nacho lead our tour like the other reviews that had given it 5 stars had and it was not a good experience. We hiked an overgrown trail, getting smacked in the face with branches while our guide speed-hiked and left some of the older folks way in the back. At one point my partner was literally squeezed between 2 other clients in the back of a jeep without seatbelts on a very bumpy dirt road as we were driven back to the main transport after the hike. I almost hit my head on the window. Every other tour we encountered once officially in the park seemed to be having a great time (we didn’t see anyone for a long time on the overgrown trail), it was definitely not worth the money we spent on this excursion. If you’re looking for the absolutely barest minimum, then it’s fine. but if you’re looking for an actual tour, highly recommend booking through another company.
Excursion was good. Guides were excellent. Marianna was extremely knowledgeable and caring. I can’t say sightseeing was amazing. It was pretty but not wow. Getting there and back taking much longer than an excursion itself. Bring water shoes or sandals with traction
Amazing private tour at La Leona , and tour guide Freddie was super patient and attentive . Thank you
The hike to and from the waterfall was more challenging than expected. There are multiple ladders that require alot of climbing. You should be in very good physical condition for this adventure. I don't feel that the level of physical fitness or the challenges of the hike were properly revealed prior to booking this. That being said, the end result was worth it and the waterfall was beautiful. Make sure you wear closed toed shoes with aggressive tread because chacos won't cut it. Do not recommend if you have knee or hip problems because it is very steep and you will climb a lot! Also keep in mind that the heat and the humidity make it tough if you are not acclimated to this environment. My husband and I are 56 and my daughter is 31 and all in good physical condition and it was tough for all of us!
You need to be in fairly good physical shape and not have any mobility issues or cardiac history. Wear (at least) running shoes that can get wet/dirty (not your new Jordans). We wore light weight hiking runners. Wear shorts/T-shirt, bathing suit under. Bring/buy waterproof phone case for photos. Fantastic hike/experience - back and forth across the river in the gorge (rope to hold on to), natural rock slide/rapid (optional) about 5 feet down into a beautiful pool), the gorgeous swim/approach toe the narrow opening to the Falls and then later cliff jumping. Amazing experience! Water is cold, bring small towel and change of clothes/shoes for later.
