Itinerary
Start your day with an air-conditioned coach ride up the mountain to the village of Kuranda. The scenic route provides you with incredible views of Cairns and the coast.
Enjoy a visit to the award-winning Rainforestation Nature Park, where you can take a tour on a historic World War II Army Duck over land and through water. The friendly and informative Duck Captains will identify and explain the flora and fauna of some of the world’s oldest rainforest. Join a guided tour of the Koala and Wildlife Park and see koalas, snakes, dingoes, a cassowary and the only Tasmanian Devils in North Queensland. Learn about their behaviour and quirky traits, as our experienced guides introduce you to each animal. Visit the Barramundi Lake and look out for Jack the Ripper, the 16 foot (5 meter) saltwater crocodile from the safety of elevated boardwalks and platforms. You can see kangaroos and wallabies as they roam freely through the park. The Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience is unforgettable. Follow your Pamagirri Guide along the Dreamtime Walk down the Rainbow Serpent pathway, and learn how to throw a traditional boomerang. Your Pamagirri guide will demonstrate traditional spear throwing as well as a didgeridoo presentation, followed by an energetic and interactive traditional Aboriginal dance performance in the Rainforest Amphitheatre. The performance depicts aspects of indigenous culture including animals, food gathering and hunting. The rainforest serves as the theatre walls whilst sounds of wildlife provide accompaniment to the haunting sounds of the didgeridoo and clapsticks. Be sure to watch closely - there's a surprise for the audience at the end!

It was an interesting experience but not the traditional experience we were hoping forgetting for. Visits to see the wildlife and butterflies are an additional charge making the experience a bit expensive.
Hi Rebecca, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re glad to hear you found the Aboriginal experience interesting, though we’re sorry it wasn’t quite the traditional experience you were hoping for. Cultural experiences can feel different depending on expectations, and we appreciate you sharing yours. Regarding the wildlife and butterfly visits, these are separate inclusions depending on the package selected, which allows guests the flexibility to tailor their day. We understand that additional options can add to the overall cost and appreciate your perspective. Thank you again for your review — feedback like this helps us continue to refine and improve our guest experiences.
The road on the bus there is very windy but tolerable. The activities within the rainforestation were interesting. The dancing was ok. I would have liked to learn more about the people and the cultures. I was thrilled to hold a koala. I got to see different animals but the area is a bit run down. The duck boat ride was excellent. Ryan was a great tour guide. The town is extremely small but the shops are very interesting. We were finished in the area and had to wait 2 hours for the bus to come pick us up. I think it should have been a half day trip. We missed a dinner because we got back too late but we actually could have made it if we didn’t have to wait the 2 hours. I definitely liked the experience but wish it was shorter and much less costly.
Thanks to Tharne, our fantastic driver, have had a memorable day! Tharne, you’re simply the best!

This trip has everything to offer to those who want the rainforest experience. Exploring the majestic and ancient Australian rainforest with its indigenous fauna and flora while being driven in an actual army duck. Our driver was very amusing and gave interesting commentary throughout. The little zoo enclosure is great fun, I especially loved Juliet the wombat and there are a couple of tame wallabies too that provide a great photo opportunity for a close up with them. Our Dreamtime guide enthralled us with their didgeridoo blowing ( my favourite of the day) and spear throwing demonstrations. We all had a go throwing a boomerang and after watched the mesmerising storytelling Pamagirri dancers. Our host Geoff picked us up and drove us to Kuranda village where we spent a the afternoon in the heritage and the hippy markets and popped into the Butterfly Sanctuary and Bird World. After a brilliant day out, Geoff was back again to drop us off at an our hotel. He is very witty and pointed out local places of interest on the way back.
An excellent experience. Really well organised, with lots of itinerary options that were managed really smoothly. Steve did an amazing job. The Rainforest Station was brilliant and everyone there was very friendly and helpful. The boomerang throwing and dream walk were very interesting, the army duck tour was fun and the animals were very accessible. My daughters and I really enjoyed our day there. Karanda is also very beautiful with lovely markets.
Hi, thank you for your review. We are delighted that you and your daughter enjoyed your Kuranda tour with Tropic Wings and loved the many different activities in the itinerary. We hope that you can join us for another adventure of Far North Queensland in the future!
I booked this experience through the company's website while in Cairns. They did not list return times. I was up early trying to contact them to ask when they would be returning. They emailed back and forth about late times but uncertain to pinpoint a time due to congested roads and Iron Man. Early on, I requested to cancel and if they would kindly refund the expense because I could not be on a trip that couldn't tell me what time I'd be back in Cairns. I even said a partial; refund would be welcome. They refunded zero and made all kinds of excuses; the manager answered an email a week after the request. Shady business with shady practices.
Thank you for your feedback, and we're sorry to hear that your experience with Tropic Wings did not meet your expectations. Our Kuranda tour includes an estimated return time of 5.30pm, which is noted in our brochures and pre-arrival information. Prior to the tour, we advised that return times might be slightly later due to increased traffic from the Cairns Ironman event — a situation we tried to communicate clearly in advance. Your tour was cancelled by you at approximately 7.30am on the morning of travel, after our team had already commenced hotel pickups and operational costs were incurred. We did our best to accommodate your change in plans, responding to you within a few minutes, including offering alternative travel options, which were declined. We also sincerely apologise for the delayed follow-up to your email by our Reservations Manager. Our team was handling a high volume of enquiries at the time, which unfortunately caused a delay in our response. We always aim to be upfront and supportive of our guests' needs, and regret that on this occasion you were left feeling dissatisfied.
Tropical Winds group is very organized. Fun activity to do with the family. A little bit of everything from petting and feeding wallaby, learning about the culture and was able to throw a boomerang.
The Rainforest Aboriginal Park was Great. Wonderful place to visit and see the indigenous peoples lives and animals. The Visit to Kiranda to me was a tourist trap, but a beautiful experience. I loved the butterfly 🦋 exhibit and enjoyed many of the attractions and little shops
Hi, we are happy that you had an amazing experience on your Kuranda trip with Tropic Wings and enjoyed the many different activities. Thank you for your review and hopefully you can travel with us again soon.
Visiting the Rainforstation, seeing the different wildlife, riding the duck boat through the rainforest, throwing a boomerang, and watching the tribal dance was an incredible experience. At Kuranda Village, it has more vendors than experiences, and very few vendors are opened on Monday or Tuesday. I did visit the Butterfly Sanctuary and enjoyed seeing all the butterflies.
