Itinerary
Explore Kruja Castle, the hilltop fortress that became the stronghold of Albania’s national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, during the 15th-century resistance against the Ottoman Empire. Walk through its stone gates and imagine the battles that once took place here while enjoying panoramic views of the Adriatic plain and surrounding mountains. Inside the walls, travelers can visit the Skanderbeg Museum (optional), which displays weapons, maps, and artifacts from the period, and the nearby Ethnographic Museum, housed in a beautifully preserved traditional home. The castle grounds also feature cafés and viewing terraces — ideal for relaxing and taking memorable photos of this historic site.
Step inside the Ethnographic Museum of Kruja, housed in a beautifully preserved 18th-century traditional home that once belonged to a prominent local family. The museum offers a vivid glimpse into Albanian life during the Ottoman period, showcasing authentic furniture, handmade textiles, copper kitchenware, and traditional clothing. Visitors can explore each room to see how families lived, cooked, and entertained guests centuries ago. The house also features a charming courtyard and wooden balcony with views of the castle walls — perfect for photos and a quiet moment to take in the atmosphere.
Wander through the Old Bazaar of Kruja, one of the oldest and most atmospheric markets in Albania. Its cobbled lanes are lined with wooden stalls where local artisans sell handwoven rugs, copper crafts, filigree jewelry, carved wood, antiques, and traditional souvenirs. Travelers can watch craftsmen at work, chat with friendly shopkeepers, and learn about centuries-old techniques passed down through generations. The bazaar’s lively colors and mountain backdrop make it a perfect place for photos, browsing, and finding authentic handmade gifts.
Discover the Gjergj Kastrioti National Museum (Skanderbeg Museum), dedicated to Albania’s most celebrated hero — Skanderbeg, who led the 15th-century resistance against the Ottoman Empire. Located within the Kruja Castle walls, the museum tells the story of his legendary battles and the unity of Albanian principalities. Inside, visitors can explore maps, weapons, armor, heraldic symbols, and paintings that portray Albania’s medieval history and Skanderbeg’s enduring legacy. The museum’s architecture, inspired by fortress towers, complements its exhibits and offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding valley and the Adriatic plain.

Highly recommended! The bus picked us up exactly at the scheduled time. The journey was comfortable in a clean, air-conditioned vehicle. Our tour guide was fantastic—friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging. He shared many interesting facts about the places we visited and about Albania, which made the trip even more enjoyable. Overall, it was an excellent experience, and I would definitely recommend this tour.
Pick up time changed twice so rebooked for following day. Guide had basic English and didn't explain effort needed to get to view as few in group struggled. If you struggle with steep climbs or uneven paths avoid this trip. Bazaar shops were repetitive in content but a few gems! If you are happy to hike and / or looking for holiday trinkets go for it!
Daniel was an amazing tour guide. Very knowledgeable, friendly, and prompt. It’s a beautiful area of Albania and very historical. Highly recommend.
We had a wonderful day trip to the Kruger castle, our tour guide Daniel was excellent, very kind humble man. He explained the history of Albania to us and guided us throughout, very nice and friendly guide. We had our lunch from one of the restaurant that he recommended and the food was super delicious 😋. I highly recommend this company
Daniel our guide was very friendly and informative. Loved the castle and gardens and there is a lovely restaurant near the top with fabulous views. Not expensive either. The little bazaar is a nice change and chance to buy some souvenirs. Euros are widely accepted.
Daniel was both our driver and guide. He spoke English and French, very impressive! His pride in his home country shone through his impeccable presentations and anecdotes. A very lovely and informative day. Thank you Daniel!
Hotel pickup was very easy, communication through out was great. Tour guide was very friendly and helpful. Speaks perfect English. Overall a very good day out and excellent for the price.
Daniel our guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. Would recommend this trip, although not all parts will be accessible if you have mobility problems.
Daniel was an absolute legend, he guided us throughout the historical trip with plenty of information. He made sure everyone was looked after. Thank you Daniel! See you soon again on another adventure 💯
A wonderful few hours exploring some key places in Albanian history. Enjoyable trip up into the mountains, with breathtaking views spanning 180 degrees, but also highly informative. Geri (Gerhard?) our guide was highly knowledgeable and gave informative descriptions of all key points along the tour, and also about various sights on the drive to Kruje. I learned so much on the tour, and was then able to stroll around the bazaar and restaurants in my own time before the return journey. I highly recommend this trip if visiting Durres, whether you want to see the sights or to learn some fascinating history of Albanians and their culture!
