Itinerary

20 min

From our meeting point at Norrsken House Kigali, we’ll start our walk toward the Belgian Peacekeepers Memorial. Along the way, you’ll get a feel for Kigali’s clean, well-planned streets and modern architecture. We’ll pass by lively commercial areas, small local shops, and everyday city life unfolding around us.

30 min

At the Belgian Peacekeepers Memorial, we’ll pause to reflect on the history of the 10 Belgian soldiers who were killed at the start of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The site features a small museum and the preserved bullet-marked building where they made their last stand, offering a powerful glimpse into Rwanda’s past and its journey toward peace.

60 min

Biryogo has a lot to offer, and we’ll be there to take it all in! We’ll walk through its vibrant car-free zone, where locals gather at outdoor tea shops, the aroma of grilled brochettes fills the air, and the streets buzz with life. As we explore, we’ll pass through beautiful streets art , a showcase of Kigali’s creativity and culture. We’ll also stop by the Nyamirambo Women’s Center, where you can learn about the community’s inspiring initiatives and browse locally made crafts. Whether it’s sipping spiced Rwandan tea, tasting fresh juice, or just soaking up the lively atmosphere, this stop will give you an authentic feel of Kigali’s social and cultural heartbeat.

30 min

Take a stroll down Imbuga City Walk, a lively pedestrian street in the heart of Kigali. With no cars around, it’s the perfect place to soak up the city’s energy, enjoy a cup of Rwandan coffee, and check out local street art. You’ll pass by small shops, outdoor cafés, and vendors selling everything from crafts to fresh fruit. It’s a great spot to experience Kigali’s modern, laid-back vibe and see how locals spend their day. This will be the last spot to visit and the end of our amazing tour. If you wish, we can assist you in arranging a cab or a motorbike to take you back to your location.

Great central Kigali walking tour

Jerry was very knowledgeable. His infectious enthusiasm was great. We feel like we got “the gist” of central Kigali, and the tour served as a great orientation walk. More than that, though, we came away with lots of historical and cultural context of life in Rwanda.

Interesting walking tour in Kigali City

We recently joined the city walking tour. We started at 09.30 and our guide Jerry was there waiting for us at the arranged spot. We set off on a 3 hour exploration that covered the Camp Kigali Belgian Memorial, a women's co-operative, an interesting neighbourhood where a lot of Muslims live, some street art and a spot with a lot of restaurants for lunch at the end. Jerry was an informative and engaging guide. I liked the tour.

Operator response

Thank you, John. We are glad you enjoyed the Kigali City Walking Tour and that Jerry made the experience informative and engaging. We appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you again in Kigali.

Quick but concise city tour

This city tour was fantastic! Jerry was extremely knowledgeable and a pleasure to chat with. If you’re interested in a more comprehensive experience, including the genocide museum, I’d suggest their driving tour. There’s so much to see, but you can only explore so much on foot in a few hours! It’s definitely worth it if you’re short on time and want a quick overview of Kigali.

Operator response

Thank you, Nicole. We are happy you enjoyed the Kigali City Walking Tour and found Jerry knowledgeable and engaging. We appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back for a longer tour next time.
