Waste of money

The game was misleading. First location was a neon sign store. Closed. The first mission was miles away. We told the host we wanted walking. It would have taken over an hour. Locations were Goodwill, candy store and such. The missions were sent as texts. Complete stories to read outside, in the sun, on a cell screen. Lost all enjoyment and energy. Gave up. Waste of money, time, and the only day to see Austin.

This experience is meh

Not what expected as advertised. Free apps provide better walking tours. I can see Goodwill stores and candy shops anywhere. First location can only be entered by appointment

Great scavenger hunt

I like the fully automated (via phone) scavenger hunt. Never done one before and my wife and I had a blast! Appreciated the help from the staff and the opportunity to meet some cool people along the way!

Gotta do this tour!

Love the online - start-when-you-want format. My wife and I appreciated the different places to go, the very cool and informative merchants we met along the way, and the things we got to see. Lots of fun!

Don’t waste your time/money

It was difficult to navigate. Most of the people we had to interact with were nice- the guy at Jo’s coffee was rude. I have no idea why the charge for this was over $25- I could have walked around myself and probably seen more. Huge waste of time and money.

Fun and Unique even though we grew up in Austin Area

Floating City and Gucci Goodwill. Never would have experience those without doing this Scavenger Hunt. Austin has such beautiful areas that even if you seen some of the "stops" on our hunt it's worth seeing them again with this twist. We had a person with a physical handicap so couldn't do this as fast as most. So the competition aspect didn't apply to us but that didn't matter, it was still so fun. We plan on seeing the other stops throughout the weekend.

Disappointing

The scavenger hunt was not updated for the day of the week nor for the season. On our first stop we wasted so much time looking for something that was not even there due to the change in seasons. At another stop we were to ask the store owner a question about that day's task and the answer given with no enthusiasm was "that was done yesterday." Plus parking at most stops was sparse; so this made the hunt even less fun. The instructions were unclear as to how points were earned or even why you wanted to earn points. Asking us to dress up at a goodwill store using items we were not going to buy was just a rude and inappropriate request. .

Not a Scavenger Hunt; Equivalent of Googling an Article with Things to Do

This is not a scavenger hunt. Essentially, they provide you with a list of "missions" (listing all the places to go, things to do) and then they assign you points when you do them. So it's the same as if you googled "Things to do in Austin" and followed the results, only you get fake points. I've gone on other Scavenger Hunts before where part of the fun was doing puzzles to figure out where you are going next. NOT THIS. These missions (again, which are given to you), are more filled with embarrassing (or as they call it "creative") things to do, and then you do them. There might have been 1-2 puzzles on the list. My parents were in town for my birthday so we thought this might be a fun thing to do, but the moment we were given the list, we took one look and said no thank you. Waste of money, but you live and your learn.

Operator response

We can assure you that if you try the hunt and don’t quit at the very beginning, you’ll understand how it works, have a blast, and experience a wide variety of curated VIP experiences that are just for our hunters. You have to visit each place in order to find out what awaits you, as it’s an immersive experience like no other, that unfolds as you progress. It is also an interactive creation among the hosts, the motivated and positive minded guests, and the wondrous city itself. Dare to experience the serendipity and unbridled joy that’s always a part of the endeavor, but you have to participate and bring your creativity in order for the hunt to deliver tenfold, as it’s been doing since 2018 in our now 600 cities! It was unfortunate that the guest sent such hateful messages to our staff member, who was trying to work with her. It’s hard to review something you haven’t even tried. For that reason, we will enthusiastically save a free seat for you and an adventurous group for next time in any city!

Great fun!

I used to live in Austin in the 1970s. My wife and I decided to do a getaway from Houston one weekend, and we went up to Austin. While we were there, we found the AlleyKat Adventures tour, and did it. Quite a blast! It took me to many places that I was familiar with and a couple that I wasn’t familiar with, and we just had a grand time. Highly recommend it.
