Much More Than a Morning Walk in Kamakura

I joined the Kamakura Seaside Morning Walking Tour and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. The tour explores Sakanoshita, a beautiful seaside neighborhood located near the Great Buddha of Kamakura and Hasedera Temple. However, this is much more than a simple walk along the coast. As you stroll through the charming streets and scenic waterfront, the stories of the people who lived here during the 12th and 13th centuries—the era when the Kamakura Shogunate was established—come vividly to life. Our guide, Blanca’s passion for her hometown, combined with her impressive knowledge and warm personality, made this one of the most memorable experiences of my visit to Kamakura. I highly recommend this tour to history lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking a deeper understanding of Kamakura beyond its famous temples and shrines. If you enjoy discovering hidden stories, local perspectives, and beautiful seaside scenery, this tour is not to be missed. 10/10!

A Memorable Morning Walk Through Kamakura

On this tour, I joined a one-hour morning walking tour that started in the Sakanoshita area near Hase Station on the Enoden Line and explored several nearby highlights. At first, I thought it might be a bit challenging to wake up so early, but thanks to Blanca’s engaging and enjoyable guiding, the hour flew by. Blanca grew up in this area, and her deep knowledge of the local history and culture made every stop fascinating. She shared detailed stories and historical insights throughout the tour. Exploring places such as Kamakura Seaside Park, Joju-in Temple, and Gokuraku-ji Temple through the eyes of a local guide made the experience far more memorable than I had imagined. What impressed me most was Blanca’s passionate explanation of Ninsho (1217–1303), a Buddhist monk of the Shingon Risshu school during the Kamakura period. She vividly described not only his religious activities but also his dedication to social welfare, including helping the poor and providing medical support to those in need. Her enthusiasm brought history to life and made a lasting impression on me. I highly recommend this tour not only to history enthusiasts but also to those who usually find history a bit boring. Whether it is your first visit to Kamakura or you have been there many times before, this tour offers fresh perspectives and new discoveries. It is a wonderful way to experience the rich history and culture of Kamakura.

A unique and wonderful experience in Kamakura

Our guide, Blanca di Edo gave us a wonderful tour based on her extensive knowledge of history and geography. She took us through areas of Kamakura that are different from the usual crowded spots. We walked along the beach in Kamakura early in the morning, and then strolled through historic temples and the quiet local streets, which left me feeling refreshed. It was truly enjoyable and a valuable experience. Thank you, Blanca!! I highly recommend it to anyone interested in Japanese history, nature, and local life.
