Jewish Budapest Walking Tour

Description
Explore the cultural center of Budapest with me! If you’re interested in history, street food, going out or street art in Budapest, you can find it all in one place, in the Jewish Quarter. During our tour we discover the depths and riches of Jewish heritage in the city. Dwelving in to Jewish history, I’ll show you the hidden Jewish treasures of the neighborhood with 3 synagogues. We’ll take a look at the murals, that make the Jewish Quarter a true open air gallery; the kosher restaurants, and last but not least I’ll invite you in to the most authentic local ruin pubs and cultural centers which are the top meeting points for locals and party people. Please keep in mind, the synagogues we visit on the tour are functioning religious places. On Friday afternoon, whole Saturday and on Jewish high holidays they are closed.

Itinerary
The first synagogue we will see is in Rumbach Street, the building is closed from an interior visit, but it’s beautiful with an interesting history.
The second synagogue is not other, but the largest European one in Dohány Street. We will visit the whole complex, including the Hungarian Jewish Museum and the Raoul Wallenberg Memorial garden with the Tree of Life Monument.
After we leave the complex, we will be heading to explore the bohemian side of the Jewish Quarter with the interior visit of a famous, so-called ruin bar, the Szimpla Garden.
The last synagogue of our triangle is the Kazinczy Street Orthodox Synagogue, a very special art nouveau treasure, we will go inside the building too.
The last part that we will see is the posh Gozsdu Court with wonderful restaurants and party places.

Guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. I would recommend this tour. Petra was great. Family loved her.
Dearest Lynne, Thank you so much for your review, and for the wonderful experience with your family! I enjoyed it very much! Petra
Emi was a wonderful tour guide. And this part of the city is so different from the opera house area even though they’re close by each other. It was very powerful to go into the synagogue and hear the history of the Hungarian Jews.
Dear Rachel, Thank you so much for taking the time and write this review! I'll definitely forward your kind words to Emi, and I hope we'll have the pleasure once again in the future to organize tours for you and your family! Bests, Petra
Petra was so knowledgeable about the Jewish experience in Budapest. Her personality was bubbly and she made the experience enjoyable. Her recommendations for food and fun places were spot on.
Thank you very much for taking the time and giving 5 stars on my tour! :) I hope you had a great time in the bar on that evening!
With Petra, you have a young person speaking her mind, and that’s what makes a great guide in a dynamic and evolving city. I can strap on a headset if all I want are facts and figures about this building or that date. But we like to go deeper into the history and current events which made for great insight from someone as open and honest as Petra. Sure, she knew all the facts and dates too, but the opinions on communism, international relationships and the current Hungarian government really added spice to the time together.
Andrew, thank you so so much for your review! I accept that I can’t compete with the beauty of Jordan’s Petra, but I’m happy I could be your guide in Budapest!
